Default Ever have one of them days?

It started off so promising. Well it wasn't a bad patrol anyway but it could have been much better. Embarked on a new career (upgraded to a IX in the last one but just didn't feel right so its on hold) and went back to my VIIB. First patrol Sep 39 and assigned grid AM23. I found 2 large merchants before I was even halfway up the North Sea. Both sank after 1 fish in the bow. Sweet as a nut! Good things to come. Then I find a small merch which takes 2 eels to sink. Then I miss on a med cargo and use another 2 to sink her. My tonnage per torpedo fired is decreasing. I ended up using all but 2 of my fish for 55000 tons before I reached my patrol grid. I then decided to head south to my preferred hunting ground in the Rockall Bank and I find a convoy by pure chance while submerged. Smack bang in front of me is HMS Rodney at 600m range and I only have 2 torps left in my bow tubes I hit her fore and aft of her superstructure but she wouldnt sink. I'm gonna cry into my pillow now

Thats just not fair. But also why I always leave 3 or 4 torps to spare for 'just in case' big time shipping that might come along.

bad luck mate - this game does have its ironies when things like that happen.

I'm just thankful, yesterday the first Revenge class i've ever spotted and I had plenty of eels waiting for her hehe.

Well, two torpedo hits will do quite some damage even on a heavily armored battleship... it will need to stay in repairs for a long time to come... which means it's as good as sunk for any high seas operations.

further ironies, I swear this game is vindictive. The more ships you sink in a convoy, its almost like the game wont let you survive. I just got a record haul for ships sunk in one crack at a convoy - sure enough, depth charged and sank to my grave

Playing patched vanilla.. If I hit a convoy early enough & I have a full belly of eels, sometimes I pick off the escorts one by one and then have the convoy to myself.. It's not for the weak of heart skippers though... I can usually get 2 or 3 before they start looking for me. My record is 8 escorts for one convoy, including 2 Black Swans. I was in an IXC and finished off the rest of the convoy with the remaining eels and deck gun.. That patrol was 109K tons..

Good Hunting..

You were too busy sinking them instead of escaping after a reasonable haul. Target greed will kill you every time.

And, yup, have had plenty of frustrations. Such is life of the U-boot commander.

you're right - I did get greedy - my reload crew had it down to 6 minutes per tube, so while I was halfway down the stairs to 200 meters I was still in the middle of the convoy, I couldnt resist coming up for another go. This led to my first experience with the glass breaking noise & the electrical shorting out sound. Not something I want to hear again!

when you have this again try this.

have tubes 1 and 2 loaded.
open both tubes and pick tube one.
press fire and quickly pres y then fire again.
both torpedoes will hit in the middle with more chance of sinking her
