Default Going for complete realism! 100%!

Thats right. I'm gonna totally push out the boat on this patrol and I'm not talking about turning off the external camera or dud torpedoes. I'm talking about the ultimate in u-boot simulation. Thats right... a beard!
One of the other engineers at work today remarked that I was looking pretty wild and it occurred to me that I havent shaved for about a week now which is the same length as my current patrol. This could be a not so sub-conscious desire to be a u-boot kaleun manifesting itself somehow :hmm: Or it could be down to the fact that I patrol until 2am and get up at 6am and run out the door to be there by 7... whatever the reason the beard is here and I'm gonna keep it until I sink. Which probably means saturday. I wonder how the missus would take it if I started bathing in saltwater every second day?:hmm:

So does this mean that you'll be running at TC 1x the whole time?

Cause THAT is hardcore. You could trim your beard in between checks of the bridge.

Taking a bath? Forget it, you're playing a u-boat and not the "Queen Mary" And don't forget: No alcohol and only canned food.

Cheers,
AndyW

I'm pretty sure that the entire subsim community will be delighted to know that the beard is coming on famously. U-48 sank in a depth charge action but in honour of the crew I decided to keep it going.

Reviews from family and friends have all been positive. My girlfriend thinks I look like a vagrant and has asked that I get rid of it before the next visit to her family, my youngest son wont hug me goodnight anymore, my boss told me that I 'look like something that has just crept out of a forest' and this morning on the train to work a woman sat next to me and then moved seats (Granted in the last case I was very sleepy and had red eyes and stand up hair so I did look like a deviant)

All in all then a massive success

This reminds me....

A couple of years ago there was a member of either Subsim or the UBI forums who actually did conduct a 1xTC patrol.

I mean, he slept when he could & he woke up when a contact was reported. He effectively tried to live the life of a RL U-Boat captain with RL shifts and such.

It was really enjoyable reading his patrol reports. You could actually see him going slighty mad due to sleep deprivation.

I really wish I had kept the links to the reports.

Does anyone still know of these or remembers them?

I fell asleep on watch one night (TC 1x) and the kids woke me up by screaming 'ALAAARMM' Dang near flipped my computer chair over

Yeah, I'm not sure I like the way this is going. I'm growing a beard, not going mad. In fact I feel so strongly about this that me and the beard are gonna track down the next man that implies we are mad and we'll kill him!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just noticed my avatar has a beard. Freaky. He even looks a bit like me except I wear a white peaked cap

Thank You Neal

This is Wrratt's 1xTC patrol, the images are gone and some of the text is a bit squiffy but it's all there.

And, what's this, post no.2 from Gizzmoe using the F word, tut tut.
