BdU; "Keep up the Good Work!"

Probably a pipe dream but wouldn't it be nice if BdU was a bit smarter?
How about adjusting your patrol grid in early war in case you use a bunch of eels on your course? So now I'm going to burn fuel to go around Scapa Flow to the approaches or where ever with 4 or less fish? Maybe I should try the re-supply mod instead but again this is early `40 and cows are not out yet right? Heck 1st. Flotilla hasn't moved either. Ok so it's a game and I wind up devising my own patrol at times. Im just wondering if this affects renown. I mean you use up all your eels anyway and if your tonnage is good whats the difference? I have even scored an extra merchant or two on the way back to base with the deck gun, after BdU says to return. Later on I don't expect that to be a constant.
So basicly I have two msg's, it is tempting to just ignore them. But there is always that possible Convoy notice. So at a minimum I remember somewhere or somehow there is a way to randomize and / or add custom msg's from BdU.
For example; "Good shooting!" or "Your next case of warm British Lager is on us!"
If someone could point that out I would appriciate it.
btw; regarding custom msg's - not wanting to crash the game I would presume there may be a limit.
Thanx!
