Default GWX - Neutral, Enemy, Friendly

I do you go about re-instating the map updates for these. I find seeing the flags through the scope impossible without ramming the contact or how do you go about recognizing the flags?

You can use the external camera if you like to see the flag. Also you can use the ship's camera , and . to see the target. If you don't want to use external views I'm affraid you have to do it the hard old fashion way-visual. If you want to see the coloured icons on the map just add this to your game http://files.filefront.com/GWX_Conta.../fileinfo.html

90% of the time neutrals will be lit up unless in allied convoys
Warships you should be able to recognise through the rec manual
Thats what its there for
Alternatively you can use the next unit view - , and . on the keyboard - to see the ship
Or you can surface and see if you take a hit :rotfl:

Thx for the replies guys. Haven't played SHIII for a few months now and just had to have another go with the GWX mod. Though missing the nanomater ruler + the colour contacts + the convoy routes overlay. Otherwise I like.

Another question. When destroyers are pinging I can't tell from the sound whether it has hit the hull I expected a different sound. So when does the destroyer actually ping you when the sound man says so. Can you tell the difference?

Someone here like to say, SINK EM ALL!!

On the ping, when they do that they are pretty sure of your location, either deep and quiete, or evasive actions..

Once they start pinging start praying

Go deep and be very quiet. If you have bold decoys fire them and get as far away as possible quickly. If you don't have decoys try to evade them and be prepared to face the depth charges

What does an orange time compression number indicate?

If it is neutral/friendly, it won't cap your TC, if its enemy, it will cap out at 32x (stock)

The pinging. I expected from films/books that the sound of destroyers pinging (searching) and the sound of the ping hitting the hull would be distinct. So my question again is "when do you know you have been pinged" and hence to change direction/depth of boat?

If the DD is passive you will not hear any 'pinging,...however when it goes 'active' you will most definitely hear the 'ping'....be advised that your submarine stealth meter is not 100% accurate as to whether you have been found...it is more just an advisory indicator of the possibility/probability

when your u-boat is being pinged by a DD it does have a very distict sound someone once explained it as a scraping sound or something like that. so is this modeled in sh3 coz ive heard anything like that before just the normal "ping ping" like in the movies

There is no 'scraping sound'
