Beware of sinking ships

During my second GWX patrol (November 39) with my VIIB sumbie at dawn. We shelled a freight/passenger ship. I sent out a status report, took a look at the area where the ship sank about 300 meters away. Fearing an air attack, I ordered pero depth.

A few minutes later:We leveled off. A blast rocked the boat. The normal panicky ship damage reports and hollering by crew filled the boat. The damage screen looked pretty ugly, but not critical leaks. The damage was widespread, almost all compartments were affected, but fortunately light.

Beware of the revenge of the sunken.

GWX has lot's of surprises!

The greatest submarine ace of all time, WWI ace Lothar von Arnauld de la Perriere, nearly lost his boat and his life when a freighter he had sunk landed on top of him. He wrote that it was sheer luck that the merchant rolled off of them on the way down, allowing them to escape.

I've used slow sinkers as top hats to hide from DD's and it's worked great. Trick is to park under then but also slightly behind so when they finally do go down they push you out of the way

How do you know exactly where to park without using external view, i.e. cheating?

....or you can be so much out of luck that the BB you just torpedoed just explodes when you are about 10 meters below its keel, took damage from the explosion (?) and was somehow dragged 50 meters deeper by the fast sinking wreck shortly afterwards.

an another day, I was very at PD next to a hit cruiser which was taking on water, it then capsized and the bridge section hit my conning tower.

I dont know "exactly" where to park, I guess, and sit about 40m down.
Normally I put a mark on my map where the ship is and remember it's heading, then creep up behind it and park my self on that mark. Am I "exactly" underneath it? Probably not but I'm close enuff that the DDs cant DC me very well if at all. The DD's wold have to either go right through the slowly sinking ship to roll them onto me off the back OR risk causing more dmg to the slow sinker by shooting the DC off the sides (which I dont even know if they do in GWX)
