Default Shallow Water SSK Mission

You asked... I delivered...

I just sent a mission to Bill. I hope he posts it.

It's fairly simple, you just have to try to sink some ships in a formation. It's also more fast paced. Instead of a search problem, like I did in the last one, I made this one more navigationally oriented. I put you someplace between the limiting lines of approach for a fast-moving amphibious force approaching a coastline. You want to try to get as close as you can to the gators without being spotted or colliding with anyone so that you can shoot at least one of them. Depending on the angles it can be pretty tough to get a good shot.

Best played with wake homers. Look out for the shotgun ship, having a bunch of VLA land on you is very sad. Sonar is less of an issue in this mission so much as the periscope, acoustic intercept and ESM.

As always, questions, comments and snide remarks are always appreciated.

No biggie. I hate to pressure people who do these things for the love of it. I'm just curious to see people's response to it. I get all excited.

I sent in 5 new missions to the Subguru myself. May not be exactly what you're looking for, but I'm working on an additional 2 Kilo missions in littoral areas. These are my first real attempts at the mission builder so please let me know if you have suggestions.

Hope all is well with Bill - he has been a bit quiet of late. I suspect he will surface soon saying that he has been working hard - and you know
if you spend any amount of time away from home there is a lot of RL stuff to handle on return and family will always come first.

God speed Bill - we look forward to you rejoining us safe and well when you can.

I have to re-send because I got a notice in my e-mail that my message failed. I'll do it again later. I had an extra letter in the Subguru's e-mail address.

Anyway, these missions are kind of long. Don't expect to be right in the action right away. You will have to use your sensors and actually hunt down contacts. They take awhile to play. I also plan to improve these missions, but wanted to release them just to get possible suggestions or critiques. I'll re-email them tonight.

My experience is that diesel electric subs tend not to do much hunting. It's more like they go someplace where they'll probably be in the way of a target and then wait hidden. Instead they're more like a very smart mine. The problem is that they're slow, so they're always constrained by the limiting lines of approach of whatever they're chasing after.

To a certain extent that's the problem with submarines in general, if they aren't armed with ASCMs but with diesel electrics, it's especially the case because they lack endurance.

OK, I re-sent my missions. This time it should get through.

BTW, these missions are 2 688(I) scenarios, 2 Seawolf, 1 Kilo or FFG-7 scenario.

BTW SeaQueen. I was kind of inspired by another thread you were involved in pertaining to mission building. These missions are certainly not in the same league as the legendary Sicilian Wedding by the Subguru, but they are simple scenarios that put you in a situation. Not a ton of heavy scripting in them. Only two did I attempt to heavily script. But the whole goal of a sim like this is to get in a situation where you can use your sensors to find targets, and shoot torpedo's and such. While I like a good story line, it's more important to be placed in the scenario with tangible objectives.

SeaDeamon - I need you to send your missions in a zip file. Missions that are sent to me 'raw' usually get messed-up by my e-mail service

Gotcha. My apologies. I just sent them your way Bill in a compressed (zipped) file.
