Sonar range large convoy???

If you have a large Convoy about 80 ships about 50 miles away
should you beable to hear them? I was reading ina book that you could
hear a large convoy 60 ships or great at 70 miles away. Is there away that you can increase the range of the sonar?

While it was possible and did happen as you noted, there are many many more instances of several u-boats loosing a convoy after having either attacked it or beeen closing in to do so.

The game does over model how well and consistant the sonar was. The Atlantic ocean was/is a very noisy place.
