Im running a mission made from the editor in DW. Real simple. My Kilo Improved SS up aganist a SSBN US Sub placed about 50miles away from me. All autocrew off. Im in shadow waters and ive got the SSBN running inside a box.
With the autocrew off do i still have to search for targets - watch the radar, or will the computer tell me about a sonar contact then leave it up to me to do everything else. Its taking along time to find that SSBN sub! lol. Ive been playing to much SH3 i think cause im sitting in front of the sonar listening for contacts. ![]() |

I installed the 1.03 beta 1 patch, does this make detection harder?

Hi kiwi,
If you have autocrew off then yes, all your detections will be made by you, and the computer will not inform you of any contacts that are on the sensors.... you'll have to be deligent and watch the sonar itself. I don't think the 1.03 patch made it "harder" for detection, but it does make thermal layers more of a sound barrier... The Kilo's sonar has limited range and sensitivity and will probably only detect the SSBN at around 10 nm at best, less if the sub is trying to be quiet. Hope that helps EDIT: 10nm I mean, not 10km |

Thanks Deathblow!
Yes that helped alot. I might have to re-edit the mission and make the SSBN closer, its just for my training. ![]() |

The patch greatly lengthens detections is some cases and greatly reduces them in others.
This is because the 1.03 patch is a complete overhaul of the sound propagation model. It now functions very realistically and has wide set of environmental parameters that influence detection ranges.

If you consider detections of an Akula crawling around slowly at a range of over 30nm realistic, then sure.
