Bow/fore planes are not needed at high speed.

Last think you want is for them to jam to dive or loose hydraulics when your going flat out close to max depth

Can't say i've noticed them auto retracting on the Akula though.

IRL they also cause substatial flow noise at high speed. Just another good reason for them not to be out. Not sure if this is modeled well in the game. SOunds like another test is in order

Hi

For the Seawolf flownoise is modelled, in a way. I don't know if you make more noise and is easier to pick up for others with bow planes out, but they affect your own hull sonars if deployed. Unfortunately a small bug seems to be connected to this. I reported it in the patch thread long ago. Hopefully patch 1.02 catch this one as well.

From the patch thread.

Quote:
I think there is a small issue left over from Sub Command when it comes to bow planes and sonar. Try this.
1. When in Seawolf at say 5 knots, go to broadband and sphere. Let the medium time sonar waterfall fill up a bit. (time compress) You start with bow planes rigged out.
2. Now rig in bow planes. Run time compress a bit. Notice no difference in background noise.
3. Rig out bow planes and run time compress a bit. Notice that background noise increase with planes out.

Conclusion: Should not the background noise be at a higher level when you start with planes rigged out? Now you can run with rigged out planes without the decreased sonar effectiveness.
Cheers Porphy

That will happen with or without foreplanes
