Hello Community, back after a long time I've tried to play Silent Hunter 3 but I give up on that until their is no ultrawide GUI available.
So I went back to SH5 but as the years before we are not getting real friends. I decided to give SH4 a chance again and it works so far withou issues even in 3440x1440. The only problem I have is that I'm not able to start a new carrer as the "Start" and "Back" buttons are missing (out of the screen). As far as I understand I theory I can move those items up down or wherever I want. Now my question is can some one help me how to identify those buttons or maybe have a solution how to get access? Sure I can change resolution, start carrer, save, end game, change resolution restart and so on but that is not what I really want. So does someone have a fix for this? Thanks!

i guess we are in the same boat.
my 32:9 problems the idea with moving the buttons is interesting, and i guess it's doable when you edit "menu_1024_768.ini" (wich is located in "Data/Menu/" folder), don't ask me wich lines exactly though. But it will not solve the issue with cut off top and bottom parts of the picture ingame. Wish you luck anyway. Hope you will find a solution |

Will report back if i manage to do so [UPDATE] after some fiddleing with "menu_1024_768.ini" i've been able to move the "Apply changes" button in Graphics Options and "Start" button in New Career/Quick Mission menu. Graphics Options screen Career Start screen but there is an issue with "QuickMission" menu. The button seems to be overlayed by the mission description window and don't get active when hovering the mouse over it. QuickMission Screen here is an example of what i changed for "Apply Changes" button Original lines: [G1D I12] Name=ApplyChanges Type=1032;Button ItemID=0x1D000023 ParentID=0x1D000000 Pos=744,-560,150,42 Zone= 744 208 150 42 0 1 0x1D000009 0.8 -1 0x1D000023 -0.5 1 0 0 Color=0xE1BF6CFF Materials=4 Display=0;No stretch Font=22 Text=958 TextFlags=0x5 StatesColors=0x8B8989FF, 0xEBCF99FF, 0xDD5800FF, 0xDD5800FF Edited "Zone" line (red color values): Zone= 744 208 150 42 0 1 0x1D000009 0.7 -0.7 0x1D000023 -0.5 1 0 0 first red value (0.7) is the X position from left, the second red value (-0.7) is the Y position from the top. i used the same values for the "Start" button, have to figure out how to move it in front of the mission description window now (and change mission selection/mission description windows size) [UPDATE 2] finally i was able to fix the "Single Mission" screen. Will keep fixing all the other menu pages and report back with all the lines that need to be changed to get them work for 21:9/32:9 resolutions. here is the screenshot of fixed Single Mission page in 32:9 resolution Single Mission 32:9 fixed Last edited by VDraculaV; 03-04-21 at 08:08 AM. |

have fixed so far all menu pages for ultrawide, but run into one problem.
I can't fint the "NEXT" button from the results page (when exiting a mission). It's not a big deal though, as you can proceed this page by pressing ESC. |

Of course i will release the file. Working atm on including comments in all the changed lines with ";VDraculaV ultrawide fix"
for example: Code:
Name=StartButton;Career NEXT button Type=1032;Button ItemID=0x3000003 ParentID=0x3000000 Pos=719,-640,200,36 Zone= 719 128 200 36 0 1 0x3000006 0.7 -0.7 0x3000003 -0.5 0 0 0;(VDraculaV ultrawide fix) Color=0xFFFFFFFF Materials=4 Display=0;No stretch Font=22 Text=4022 TextFlags=0x5 StatesColors=0x898989FF, 0xEBCF99FF, 0xDD5800FF, 0xDD5800FF [UPDATE] I came across the programm "WinMerge" wich makes it easy to change not matching lines between multiple files. Now i would like to release different versions for mods that modify "menu_1024_768.ini" too. My question is, do i have to get permission for that from the modder/mod team of those mods? Wiki says the first version of these tools were released 45+ years ago so WinMerge is one of the latest on long line of similar software. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diff#Unified_format
WinMerge is a good & free software one, and there are many other options too (Kdiff3 for example, is good for 3-way comparison and also free software). BeyondCompare, SmartSynchronise are commercial but have extra features if one is doing this work in a large scale it may be worth it. RE re-releasing: Personally, I wouldn't worry about it as this is just explaining how to make it work so that people can actually use the darn thing on their highres monitors (rather that re-releasing others work for monetary or other profit). Also who's going to sue you really, this is not Apple or Oracle to litigate every issue - this is just our cute but small scale subsim game! ![]() If you are super worried about it and going to lose sleep, you could always release a patch file rather than the full thing; with this approach, rather than taking and modifying other's files you are just releasing the information that is a list of machine instructions such as: go to line #7, delete first 2 characters, insert the following characters go to line #847, delete 4 lines, add the following lines, and so on. This is so that others (who have the original file like you AND who also have access to a software that can understand and apply a patch file in unified diff format) can easily fix their files based on your written instructions. If I were you though, I'd just release it. My suggestion, release away. If anyone complains about you showing people how to add highres screen support, you can take it down... |
