Default US wildfire kills 19 firefighters

How so terribly tragic...19 brave firefighters lost

Deepest condolences to families and loved ones.

Quote:
At least 19 US firefighters have been killed battling a wildfire in central Arizona, local officials say.
They died while fighting the blaze threatening the town of Yarnell, about 80 miles (130km) north-west of Phoenix.

It is the highest death toll for firefighters in a single incident since 9/11.

That's just horrible.
My granddad was a firefighter too and he told me a few things but 19 in one fire is extreme.
May they rest in peace.

Brave men indeed. The vast majority of Firefighters in the U.S. are volunteers.
God rest their souls.

There is something about Firefighters -- They run toward that which everyone else runs away from.

We lost 4 in one day not too long ago in Houston and I thought that was horrible. To lose 19 in one go is nothing short of an absolute tragedy.

My heart goes out to the families and friends left behind.

I intended to stay out of this thread altogether, simply because there are no words for what I'm feeling right now, and nobody but us reads these threads anyway.

But I forgot about you until you posted. I just wanted to express my gratitude to you and all those who do what you do. Back when I was driving ski vans in the '80s I had the opportunity to be assigned to a firefighting group in central Utah. All I did was drive them to different spots so they could do their thing, but I lived and ate with them for three days and two nights, and slept in their tents in their disposable paper sleeping bags and I gained some appreciation for what they do for a living.

You guys rock.

As brave as a soldier who dies for his country and I hold them both in the highest regard. RIP and thank all Firefighters for their service to our country.

Paul Combs is a editorial cartoonist who works for Fire Engineering magazine. He has won several cartoonist awards. Most of his topics are fire related, but he does make cartoons on other topics also.
