Default Should I purchase SH V?

I know this subject has probably been worn a little thin, but if I don't ask for help,I will probably have a bad go of it with SH V.The main reason I'm a bit on the iffy side is because Ducimus is negative towards SH V.A man of great respect such as Ducimus among we submariners is to be listened to when he gives his thoughts on a new sub sim.
I keep reading post that if one uses the modders products,SH V isn't too bad,and I plan on using the mods for sure if they will make the sim playable. If someone could give me a hand with what mods are best,I would be very thankful.
I have a very capable Alienware puter,so that isn't a issue.
I'm still playing SH IV,with Ducimis's latest mod,and I enjoy it a great deal.Thank you again Ducimus,as you make a lot of us skippers very happy with your efforts!
I would really appreciate some help on this decision.
Thanks in advance for any help.
P.S. I'm checking the mods right now to see what they do to help the SH V problems

If worse comes to worse, you can just put it on the shelf and wait for the mods to mature.

EDIT: Do a little reading here. You'll find plenty to form an opinion, and you'll find no shortage of those here.

I'm thinking this would have been a good game to have a demo of, you know like they did back in the day. Do they still do demos anymore?

The only reason I can see not to buy SH5 is if, like me, you oppose the DRM on principle. Otherwise yes, there are problems, but many of those who are now playing it are enjoying it.

There are others who have it and don't like it, as you have read. If their complaints aren't things that bother you, then you should indeed buy it and play it. If those things do bother you, then don't buy it. Or read the threads of the same title as yours that get posted here on a regular basis.

But you posted that Ducimus produces good advice, which he does. So why ask at all, unless you are hoping someone else will talk you into it?

Ditto on what takeda said.

Its entirely up to you, and theres about 2000 threads of information about the game.

My suggestion is to form your own opinion, its just about the easiest thing possible. Ive had no problems with DRM, and SH5 is a great game.....For the most part.

im not a big realistic nut like everyone else, but ive started getting into it. SH5 STOCK, i say again STOCK, is, as its been said before, an arcade shooter for anyone who has been playing the SH series/ other subsims.

Ducimus isnt a god, although he is and should be a respected member, and while he may not be fond of SH5, lots of other respected long time members like it. Take sailor steve, whos title "Ancient mariner", serves him well. Hes been around for a long time not only in the forums but also in life (respectfully, of course). He likes SH5, just not DRM. DRM detracts so little from the game, even though SOME people have serious technical problems with it.

Its your 50-60$ to spend, and therefore your opinion is what matters most. People have different views on it. While Stock SH5 is fun sometimes when you just wanna blow **** up and use like subnuclear deck guns nd stuff, but with serious mods it becomes Quite enjoyable. However the campaign is annoying, and if you have a 50 year old POS graphics card, like me (at least in comparison on how it performs in SH5), it makes my FPS around 9, which is terrible and THAT REALLY destracts from gameplay.

It TRULY isnt as bad as people say/infer it is. Its like your own little baby (although the emotions are a bit dubbed down). On one hand its beautiful and you love it and its wonderful, however there are some things that it does that are annoying and bad like soiling himself and being difficult and needy. however once time has passed and things change, it grows into an amazing little boy, whos not difficult, or annoying at some times, and he helps out alot.

Thats what SH5 is gonna be in a year maybe, when super mods and serious AWESOME mods improve it so well it becomes a favorite and you wanna play it all the time.

And the winner of the "most number of references to Ducimus in a single post" award is... pocatellodave!!!

Seriously, here's what you do: point out SH5 to your significant other, just the cover will do. Do so on-line or in a store, doesn't matter. Mumble something about it being that game you heard about. Then forget about it.

If your significant other follows the Subsim trend, then in a week or two you'll be the proud owner of a copy of SH5. As you didn't buy it yourself, you'll no longer have the quandary about whether to buy it or not. And, as a bonus, if it sux, just blame your partner.

I admire your conviction.

Well UBI didn't make much profit from me!! but now the "I'll never buy SH5 crowd" is going to have a field day with me! My God, what have I done!!
Given the seller's location, I'm not sure Ubisoft made *any* profit from you.

I consider it conviction. Forming your beliefs and sticking by them, without sitting on the fence and worrying that you might upset someone. The former commands respect, even when in disagreement, the latter apathy.

For example, JU and I have numerous stoushes, but I'd still buy him a beer, because even though he's always wrong (that's a joke - I'm an INTJ and that is my "prayer") he's not afraid to "put it out there". But those who "don't want to offend the devs" or "don't want to upset whoever", meh...

At that price you will get alot from the game and yes, I agree, I admire steelviking for what he does and plans to do.
Hopefully himslf along with TDW, privateer, reaper7 and others will make a supermod once they figure out how to import ships into SH5.
At the moment it's the most dissappointing thing about it, the lack of variation in planes and ships.

IMO buy the game when and IF you find it for around $20, i wouldnt recommend paying more based on my opinion of how unfinished and arcade like the game is in its stock form.

yes mods do a lot for improving the game greatly but that doesnt mean you should give UBI more money (or heaven forbid, full price ) just because modders working for free on their own have made the game better.
