Silent Running Speed?

Hi Everyone, when I click on Silent Running, it puts my speed to Ahead Slow, but I am also able to go to Flank if I want, while still under Silent Running. How come I am not limited to Ahead Slow?

Does Silent Running mean slow speed? If I am at flank, am I now detectable?

So far my technique for getting away is to go as deep as I can, go to Ahead Slow, and just creep away at 2 knts in one direction. Is this a good strategy?
