I'm on my 14th patrol out of Kiel in the Type II-D boat.
I was ordered to BF47 which is west of the Brest, France u-boat base. I thought.."I'm not going through that damned "ENGLISH" Channel again" so I started for an area above Scapa Flow. All of a sudden***boing!*** it dawned on me that We were being transferred to Brest, France. I am now just 233km NNE of Scapa Flow with two torps left and slinking away from two DD's who are trying to ruin my day. I have been playing with the speed settings for best fuel endurance and I believe I can make the whole trip by going around to the west of Ireland if I hold my speeds at 5-6 knots on the surface & 2-3 knots when submerged. It is going to be one long trip though. The maximum for this boat food wise was around 30 days. It is now December 15, 1940 & I left Kiel on December 5th. Think I'll make it? |
