Default Dumb rule

I say let them wear the medal and to hell with the rule.
Quote:
Veterans barred from wearing medal

LONDON Thousands of veterans of the war in Borneo in the 1950s and 1960s who have recently received special medals from the Malaysian Government will be barred from wearing them at Remembrance Day services this Sunday.
Last week alone, hundreds of ex-soldiers who fought communist rebels in the jungles of Borneo were presented with the Pingat Jasa Malaysia (PJM) medal, right. Under a longstanding ruling, veterans are not allowed to wear two medals for the same campaign and they were previously awarded a General Service Medal for their service in Borneo.

Sounds totally stupid?? a medal is sponsored by a formal authority ans is providing the formal thank-you for an above-usual performance.

How can some of them collide? I don't understand? Someone can explain?

Let the vet's have a "personal " talk with those desk-warriors... 5 Minutes ...sufficient time... just supply them with enough ammunition to "make a point"....

Fair enough the rule exists but the fact somebody in a position of power hasn't stood up and changed it is just another example of bearucratic stupidity.

I can see the logic.

Wearing two medals that are both for the same action isn't really on.

Wear the little one on top of the bigger one.

I can't. Becasue both medals come from two different thankful parties, wishing to express their thankfulness. If allowing that expression to one, why banning the other?

That is like a state visit - and only one flag being shown.

Agreed. The medals from Malaysia aren't bravery medals or distinguished service medals, they're campaign medals which say "I was there". No need to wear two for the same campaign, therefore.

Medals are not word so other people can "express their thankfulness".

Else you should be able to wear multipul medals from different people showing the same
thing.

Medals are worn so that the person wearing them can show his glorious achievements.

One glorious achievement: one medal.

As it happens, my father was in Borneo in the 50s/60s. After failing to join the
army due to his height, he followed some of his friends in the SAS over to Borneo where
he was armed and served with them on long Jungle patrols and occasional actions for the
next few years.

As he was not a official member of the armed forces he didn't receive any medals.
