I was wondering if anyone uses the same or similar strategy for giving an exhausted crew enough sleep to make them sink ships again.
When I reach my assigned grid my crew is very tired most of the time. What I do is this (for type VII): I go to a depth of 60m and go full stop. One officer I put in the repair team slot. One officer goes in the diesel room, two in the crew compartments (one in each) and the last one I put in one of the three bridge slots. With the rest of the crew I fill the crew compartments (c/c) and the diesel room and the rest I put in the radio and sonar slots and the forward torpedo room. I turn the time compression to 32x. Once one of the officers in the c/c is at full strength, I change him with an officer in one of the other rooms, and then it's his turn to get sleep. And so on. Always keep two officers in the c/c en two on guard in diesel and bridge. While the officers are resting, I consantly change the other crew in the same way. I always keep a hydrophone specialist on station. It's a good thing to divide the petty officers in two shifts, so in case an enemy shows up, you always have one half of the crew ready to rumble. When the patrol is complete after 24 hours, you will have a fully rested crew again for the trip back to base, except for one completely exhausted officer who stayed in the repair team slot. Give him a medal after the patrol, he really deserved it. ![]() |

Good Idea... I usually get there pretty well rested and with all the medals my crew has, they don't fatigue as quickly..

I'm using the GWX 8-hr fatigue mod, and pretty much have to constantly rotate guys around.
Easiest to just crew stations lighter than you need. Always have 2 officers resting, for example, leave torpedo rooms and unused engine empty in transit, sonar doesn't need to be crewed when on the surface, etc. Everyone else in the bunks. |

You know with Manual TDC on and Weapons Officer help off I don't really know why I even bother keeping a weapon's officer one on board. I suppose it just makes the command room feel cozier. Nevertheless whenever I go through a lengthly attack where my crew becomes exhausted he is the one that I rest along with my machinist officer. So basically for the first 24 hours after an attack (successful or not) my command room has but two officers in it. Usually I'm still surfaced and I have my WO up top. My crew only get truly tired when I empty all my torpedo tubes and start to move torpedoes in from the outside. However barring that usually the only issue is in resting officers. Since you can't have any old guy run the bridge its a pain to rest them , plus only two officer bunk slots really annoys me.
Actually just last night I had my machinist running the Engine Room and I found out to my dismay that he has helium voice. really makes resting myu officers annoying, just for that baby voice. ![]() I tell ya thats one beautful thing about SH4: auto-rotation of crew. |

To make things easy, I take only as many crew as will fit in the crew quarters and duty stations when submerged. Therefore my crew is always rested when not involved in combat operations.
