Default The channel looks tempting!

Contrary to all common sense I'm considering a submerged passage through the channel. BdU in his wisdom has given me a patrol in BE99. Thats off the north of Spain! Gonna take me two weeks to get there. I'm sure theres plenty I could be doing off the coast of... say Denmark. I think he's pissed with me

What year is it ?

If its at the time of the French surender you can keep to the French coastline
If you must run surfaced do it decks awash so dive time is quicker

DONT play with the MTB or trawlers
They will only call in plenty of back up

Best of luck

You will need it

Jan 1940. Third patrol. More worried about mines than ships. Could go around but I get sidetracked too easily. I'll end up shelling trawlers off iceland or something

I had the same mission - Spain - on my third patrol out of Wilhelmshaven in a VIIB. Went through Der Kanal in order to save fuel. I did make it, but it was hairy.

I recommend using low TC. Run as much submerged as you can - surface at night and only after personally checking the hydrophone.

By the way, do you know why the Channel is so shallow? It's the mountains of corpses piled up.

As to the title of your post, the Channel may look tempting, but she's really a husky voiced woman with a bulge in the wrong place.

I've been through the english channel several times with no problems.

My best tip to give to you, is stay within the deepest parts of the channel. If you encounter a PT boat, sink it quickly with a deck gun or crash dive then correct the depth to your desire level. Leave DDs' alone and if you come across a tempting merchant, sink it too then dive/cruise and wait till night fall to recharge on the surface.

If you encounter planes, throttle your boat to the maximum and shoot them down with the flak gun. After a few rounds with the planes, dive the boat to 20m and cruise till night fall.

Simple as that.

I have almost 25 patrols in my current career, and have made many safe passages through the channel.

Who am I kidding. I've been bitching for weeks about not making it to my second patrol now when I get to number three I'm heading through the English channel. Maybe on the way back

Pissed with you? He must hate you more than Bernard. Before you take the Kanal. Hock all your things and send me the money. Take your girlfriend's address and send it to me. Will me your bycicle, your gramophone and that gold watch you got after graduating from Flensburg. Ah and don't forget to send me those 50 Reichsmarks you owe me.
