Default New guy

Hi all,
I am new to this amazing sim, I have installed and patched it just yesterday, and actually never started a mission yet, but I have been reading forums and other info for about a week (waiting the game to be delivered...).
I think I'll install the GWX mod even before trying plain SHIII.

I think I am going to try the sim with higher difficulty setting (after I have done some practice with lower difficulty of course).

I am really amazed about the very high quality stuff I found in this forum, especially some recent posts about manual plotting and manual navigation. I think I'll try to stick to these techniques that seem to be very immersive.

I have tried manual navigation with Flight Simulator (no map, dead reckoning, simulated sextant readings, very limited or no radio aids, etc) and that is quite fun, so at lease I know some basic things about navigation.

I would be delighted, as a beginner, to get some advices about achieving as much realism as possible in this sim.

Thanks to all
Cheers
Maraz

Try stock SH3 first with the 1.4 official patch just to get use to how easy it is and when you get bored time to go to warp factor 10 with GWX which will blow you away. And you will be dead very, very soon and get use to it. Beware of the Black Swan you see them your and and and so on.

Welcome on board.

Welcome aboard!
Death comes easy in GWX. Do some practice after the academy, read the manual before launching into a career.

Default Welcome

Hi Mate,

I have only been playing GWX for a little over a month now. I loaded SH III just to be able to load the mods and the great GWX. I play TC 1, Manual targeting and navigation. I play at 96% real (I hate dummy torps so I leave them all live). I have recently started at this level and found it to be a Bit-- without any view cameras. This has caused me to be better at sonar so I don't pis- off the Black Swan sitting on me. I don't know how real it is but I can sink a merchant from the TDC with only one spotting through my scope. I understand from another thread that it is possible to have a kill by sonar alone. Have not tried it but I believe there is a sonar training mod that shows how to do this. Please visit my site and feel free to participate in the data collection.

Welcome aboard and if your ever in St. Nazaier lets share some grog.
