Default In desperate need of help

I have a VIIB. It's June 1944. I just attacked a convoy and am now at 60 metres, I thin, stopped. I can't get away from this pesky Flower Corvette. I have tried several times, but nothing I do seems to work. I'm playing SH3.

Should I use Bolds. When do I use the bolds, and how many do I have. Once I release the bolds, what should I do.

I am presently heading away from the convoy (south), or at least trying. I am Silent running.

I've read the tactics for evading ASW but it does'nt work. I don't know when I'm in it's baffles because I don't know when it's heading toward me or away from me.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've never run into such a pest in all my missions.

Rob

ITs june 1944, im surpised ur not dead yet:hmm::hmm:. But dive down to about 150meters, that should be ok for now. When u use the term Bold, ur refering to the decoys that make alot of noise. hmmm the problem with that is that if u deploy ur decoys and ur right next to them, it doesnt help.
Try this, next time the ship comes and drops depth Charges, go to Flank Speed, put ur rudder at 20 degrees port and deploy ur decoys. When You Feel Comfortable. bring your speed down to 0, stop. change course to 20 degrees starboard. and hopefully the ships above will be fouled.

Is 60 as deep as you can go? If the water is deeper go way further down. If your going to use a bold I usually wait for a dc attack, when I hear charges in water I go to flank and possibly turn. as the depth charges explode cut back speed to 1 or 2 kts launch your bold then turn away from it at no more then a 10 degree turn. As shallow as you are now the escort will most likely pick you up though. So go as deep as you can.

The fact that it's 1944 means that it will be pretty tough to get yourself out of this mess. My suggestions are

1. Try to go deeper (if possible)
2. Do the Crazy Ivans (change your direction frequently while you're moving away from the convoy)
3. If you need to lunch a decoy make sure the DD is facing the oposite direction from you. Once you fire the decoy go ahead flank and try to go deeper (again if possible) while you're changing direction. After about 10-20 seconds go ahead slow and silent running again. That will confuse the DD and it will attack the decoy. By going ahead flank you position yourself away from him and if the DD was initially facing the oposite direction from you it will need a bit of time until he moves into position (all this buys you some time to get away).

To get away from a situation like this you need patience and A LOT of luck. Never fire decoys if the DDs haven't starting pinging you as you might give away your position. Also if the DDs do depth charge runs and they fire them close to you try to alter your depth regularly to confuse them.

Good Luck Rob (you're going to need it mate)

Thanks Mel. I know I'm going to need it (both ways). I had a severe pain in the chest and grabbed my nytro and went to bed immediately and had a 3-hour rest. I try the game tomorrow and try all the tactics mentioned thus far.

Thanks guys
Rob

Rob please try to be careful with your helth. I know you enjoy the game but please try as much as possible not to get too excited. Nothing, especially not GWX, is more important than your helth. I am happy though that you had your rest and I really hope you feel much better as soon as possible. About the convoy there is no need to worry. I'm sure one way or another you will eventually manage to shake the DDs away from you.

Take care mate and get well (as much as possible at least)

Mel

Default evading DD

Try this: Put your helm at 5-10 degree turn either way, but best away from enemy. Keep it there.

I have found they have trouble locking on to a turning target.

Now if you want, you can set a zig zag course using those slight turns.

I'd say you should do about 70-80 degree turns to each side along a base course away from trouble. Run silent and deep.

Good luck

Don't overtax yourself, do what the chaps suggest. Try to go deep if you can. Once the escorts start missing you, you're almost there, stay quiet, keep speed at 2 knots and sneak away.

1944 eh Rob
Nice one

As already posted
Keep your rudder 5-10 degrees over to one side and switch sides often
Before you hit flank is the time to drop a bold
Gives you some room away from it
If you are in shallow water try to head for deeper as you escape
As the water deepens so should you

Stay lucky

19-4---4?

You are meeting a Corvette from hell..

just a stupid question , do they have the hedgehog yet?

But anyway...
Change course now and then
change depth frequantly
and drop some Bolds and dive deeper.
2 knts speed must be enought and try to kreep away.

Actually, I think it may be a Hunt III DD instead. Anyway, I can't shake it. I tried for 4 hrs yesterday morning with no luch.

However, I have not tried the techniques the other guys have mentioned.

So, when I feel up to it, I will give it another try.

Assembling the patrol now. Just finished Part 1 so I might put it up on YouTube later today.

Rob.

One thing in your favour Rob is that he only has a finite number of cans to drop on you So eventually he will lose the sting in his tail

All the best matey....take good care

I've read a lot about the later stages of war here, and I documented myself on new equipment available to Allies in that time. But gamewise, what tactics I'm using in 1940 won't be working anymore? What am I to expect?

Thank you, gentlemen.
