Default GWX questions

Hi all,

Getting back into SHIII, mainly due to the GWX mod.

Everything is running fine, but I have a couple of questions:

1) My harddrive seems to get thrashed when I try to do even simple things like move an officer from crew quarters to an engineering section. Is this normal with GWX? What I mean is that I move the icon, and then there is a 4-5 second pause while my hard drive is *very* busy, then all is well. THis is just an example, it happens at other times as well. I just want to knwo if this is normal, or if I may have messed something up.

I have 1GB of RAM and a 2.4 GHz P4. I also have a new graphics card with 512 on it.

2) Can one still use things like the protractor mod on the Course plotting cursor? I was really used to this in my previous installation of SHIII. I kind of miss it. Also can I use one the nomograph options that will place it on the chart. I also had become quite attached to that.

I am still reading up on the GWX manual. Mostly the mechanics for now, but the history parts that I have read are excellent.

I wanted to put the 3dwaves mod on, but since my system seems to be struggling a bit at this point with somthing, I don't think I will add more to the load right now.

Thanks

Those specs are similar to mine and I have no slow-downs aside from being in port and loading the game in the beginning. Have a bunch of mods running, including the 3-D waves. Smooth sailing.

Somebody will come along and add more here, help you figure it out. Have you had a chance to check out the GWX 1.02 issues thread, do a search and you will see it

As reallydedpoet says, that isn't normal behavior for GWX. Have you tried defragging your hard drive?

Hi all,

I defragged before installation, after each test of each step of the installation and after runing GWX for the first time.

So it must be something else. Yes, I noticed it take a few moments to load up GWX, but that was to be expected with so much cool stuff going on

How many posts until I get rid of the Medic avatar? Looks seriously wrong on some fundamental level. Yikes!

Don't know about the protractor mod, but I use a Nomograph (Wazoo's I think) without problems with GWX.

I use Crap Cleaner, it improved the computer speed and GWX runs smoother now

Okay a mixed bag to report from my testing.

The depth control seems to work just fine. I don't know what the issue was last night - I didn't change anything prior to testing.

However, I did notice some new things that I hadn't before:

1) When I issue "Crash Dive", the Engines ring to "All stop".
2) I can never set the engines to "Flank". If I try, the needle jumps back to "All Stop".

I am running the Gibraltar single player mission. I don't change anything. I just load the mission and go, default boat, etc.

I am launching GWX via SH3Commander (with the configuration file for GWX installed).

Two additional comments.

Wow. The escorts sure have great night vision in GWX. I could never run on the surface for more than about 15 minutes. At one point I had 11 escorts trying to nail me (of course I was deep, silent and creeping away) Not a single DC seriously rattled my sub from any of the 11 escorts.

I love it. I haven't figured out how I'm going to crack Gibralter yet. This is going to absorb me for a while. There's got to be a way to get some air and a bit of charging time somehow - or perhaps not? If the escorts can detect me from such extreme ranges in the middle of the night - hooo, wheee.

.
Do you have sabotage and malfunctions enabled in SH3Commander ?
That could explain the flank to stop problem

I have had the flank to stop problem,it happened to me after I installed GWX. The problem was that I thought I'd done a "clean" install but I hadn't. When I uninstalled SHIII for the second time I had a look around the hard drive and found loads of stuff that the SHIII uninstaller hadn't removed. I think this might just be your problem.Uninstalling still leaves behind all the mods you were using and a load of other files too. My advice is uninstall it again and then do a search and delete everything that's left behind.

Good luck mate
