If you are in german harbours (that can act as bases) you can use the drop down map on the top left corner of the navigation screen. It has the locations and positions of all mines and subnets in the game. Alternativelly you can just follow the escort in and out of the harbour.

When on nav screen, on upper left corner, there is a chart that shows you where the nets and minefields are.

An escort vessel will lead you out of the harbour if you want to avail yourself to it. Just follow this armed trawler.

On return, you can wait for this vessel to appear and lead you in.

I just use the charts, but often follow the escort on my way out. Hope this helps.

He's going slow for one reason..... to keep you out of trouble, as in... away from subnets and mines. Set you speed to match his, stay behind him and you'll be ok. If you want out faster, use TC.

Obey the harbour speed limits
:rotfl:

You will find a launch alongside otherwise with a very nice man asking you to follow him to his office

Do the net cutters on the VIIb and the type II's actually work, or are they just there for decoration?

The follow-up question would be: did they actually work in real life?

This is what I found on http://www.uboataces.com/uboat-type-ii.shtml

"There was a single periscope in the conning tower with serrated net cutters in the bow. The net cutters were adopted from World War 1 boats but were quickly discontinued during World War 2"

Although the entry is about a Type-II boat I don't really think that there is a difference with VII. Most probably the net-cutters did not work.

The net cutters in game do not serve any purpose other than to add to the historical aspect of the immersion. I once read that IRL (WW11) thay actually only assisted in entangling the boat.
