U-Boats/Insurgents

Hey so im doing a research paper on PTSD: The current Iraq war and the Viet Nam Conflict, lots of fun there:hmm: For this paper my professor is making us use 10-15 internet sources/articles. So in my quest for research materials one article struck me as being odd. It was titled "Chasing U-Boats and Hunting Insurgents"
Here is a brief summary of the article
"Insurgency warfare has been considered as underhanded and unfair by regular soldiers. The war making methods by the insurgent's are neither those of a civilized opponent nor in accordance with the laws and customs of war. The way in which submarines have been used in two World Wars, they and insurgents share a reputation for being indiscriminate. Because submarines refused to distinguish between civilian and military shipping, or between neutrals and enemies."

Its a good read.
U-Boat warfare is alot like guerilla warfare and i bet alot of U-Boat commanders studied ambush tactics before they headed out for patrol.
I did a paper on FM Erwin Rommel (The best Field Commander...EVER) and in my search for info on him i found a document that said while Rommel was in Africa he read about Naval warfare tatics. It said he found that fighting in a sea of dunes is very similar to fighting at sea.

Hey Medic,

Yup, submarine warfare in WWI & WW2 was the equivalent of guerilla warfare at sea. Nowadays in Pentagonese: Asimetric warfare. While reading accounts of the North African campaigns (years ago) I've run into several references by officers on both sides commenting on the similarities between sea and desert operations.
