Little Dead Corvette
I was sneaking into Scapa Flow to scan the anchorage for targets when I got detected by a Flower Class Corvette. I tried to shake him off in the limited depth that was available, but there was nothing I could do - he was all over me like white on rice. As we were doing our frantic contortions several feet underwater the 'vette's sailors had the bright idea of setting the depth charges ultra shallow to blast us to the surface. That was a mistake, and they didn't live long enough to regret it - when the charges exploded they blew her depth charge crew 50 feet in the air. As if that wasn't enough the DC's ignited the vessels's aft magazine, starting a chain reaction that detonated the forward magazine with a huge fireball and cut the corvette in half. Result - burning oil, flying men, splintered metal, and heavy proximity damage to my U-Boat, which was right underneath the mayhem. As a grand finale the wreckage of the Corvette landed on top of my VIIB as it sank, completely trashing it. I had about 5% hull integrity, so I gave up and exited the mission.
I wish that the AI was a bit more careful when using its own weaponry. Apart from the fiasco above I've seen destroyers shoot their own merchants full of holes to get to me, careless B-24's blasting a Fletcher DD with bombs aimed at my sub, and destroyers neutering themselves with their own DC's like the Flower Class above. Although these situations can be satisfying to watch I really doubt that most sailors and aviators were THAT incompetent.
