Default Those stupid Americans...

He he, just joking but I from my rather unscientific and limited experience with GWX so far, it seems American escorts are not anywhere near as competent as their British counterparts.

It's February 1942. Previously I have been dealing with British escorts and they've been making my escapes from convoy attacks very difficult, time consuming and, frankly, hair raising affairs. I've just made my first run across the Atlantic. I came across a juicy convoy of American and Panamanian tankers with a single escort and a another destroyer roaming near by. I unloaded all tubes and got 5 hits. Time to get out of dodge; straight down to the bottom (110m, British ASW efforts have been hammering me good at 200m+!) and prepare for the inevitable barrage of DCs. Ok, here come the two destroyers, this isn't going to be good....

What the? They passed within a few hundred yards of me and then started searching. I kept my stern pointed towards them and slowly moved away, never to be detected! These guys just continued to circle and never got close to me.

So my question; has GWX modelled American ASW inexperience (at this point in the war) into the game or did I just get lucky?

EDIT - OMG what is with this Village People avatar I just got!!! I don't know what an "A-Ganger" is but it sounds and looks a little too Blue Oyster Bar for my liking. Shore patrol was much nicer.

In American waters my German crew time "sausage time" to coincide with "doughnut time" to avoid surprise attack.
In English waters "sausage time" coincides with "tea time" of course.

*edit* If you see any homo-eroticism there you only have your self to blame or thank.

True, but there's something about a bloke with no shirt and a sailor hat that makes one wonder where this website is coming from.

Now tell me there's no resemblance to my avatar and the young fella on the left!

If that is the case, then kudos to GWX because the US where Johnny come lately on U-boat warfare. The British were on to it since WW1. The US was laging behind but once awoken it did not take long to learn and develop good practice for sinking U-boats. So another 3 gold stars for GWX

They were made to be challenging, not down right Gods of Destruction. I believe GWX has a darn good handle on it. If the DD were too good, who would want to play? I believe it is as balanced as it can get.
