well, I just bought my physical copy of SH3 somewhere before Steam and Uplay. I dont remember the price.

Back in the day, you went to the computer store in the strip mall and browsed the boxes of video games on the shelves. Sometimes, you'd be looking for a certain game that you'd read about in a magazine. The boxes were about the size of an average book. Sometimes, they contained several 5 & 1/4" or 3 1/2" floppy disks and a manual. Then everything moved to CDs.

In the days of floppy disks and even in the early days of CDs, you'd have to switch discs in the middle of the game to continue. Sometimes switching back and forth between discs. Ahhh ... fun times!

SH3 original CD cost me £25 from HMV store in Leeds in 2005 but then in 2009 my local woolworths store merion centre Leeds had a closing down sale.
Everything must go posters on the store windows i poped in all the PC games dvds were priced £5 in dump bin mesh baskets i looked through them i picked up 3 SH3 dvds.
Then i asked have you any more of the SH3 dvds the assistant went into the stockroom and came out with another seven copies i then asked would i get a discount if i bought all 10 dvds.
I got all ten dvds for £30 absolute bargain these SH3 dvd were on the revival lable no star force protection on disc and once installed no need for dvd in drive all those dvd's are now long gone sent all over the world to other

members whos dog had chewed the SH3 disc or dvd drive had chewed it up.

They say its better to give than receive helping out a fellow Uboat/Subsim Nutjobs then a week or two later i get a PM from him saying Hey Bro I got the SH3 dvd mr postman delivered it today thankyou blackswan40 then Onkel Neal made me a Mod Guru what goes around comes around or so they say.

Way back time I started with Silent Hunter then SH2 came out and I joined this forum 20 or more years ago. I can recall doing an image of a U boat sinking a ship named Star Force which was a nasty piece of software. The excitement I felt waiting for SH3 was intense and I was not let down (thanks to modders).

I switch between SH3 and SH5 and love both games. SH4 never grabbed me and Uboat is pretty but is still not "there" yet.

I played it, but that was quite a long time ago. I have played all Silent Hunter games except Silent Hunter 4 and Silent Hunter Online. And I am still playing Silent Hunter 3 and 5.
I bought the Green Paper version because the original CD, when the game was still in a normal CD case and not a DVD case, was no longer playable. I think it had scratches, if I remember correctly.
I might still have the case and CD in the basement. But I'm not entirely sure.

Yep! For me it was a Sears store, and I was always looking for something I read about in a magazine. I still have some Apple II games (5&1/4 diskettes) around here in their original boxes somewhere. When I joined this forum, my original username was "FloppyRat" because I had hundreds of those damn things.

I used to play a very early alpha of the game on Hunstanton Pier in about 1970. I remember it was hideously expensive (maybe a shilling?) and initially I had to stand on a box or be held up by my dad to reach the periscope.
There was a deactivated mine on the sea front used to collect for the RNLI and there were constant sonic booms from the air combat range over the Wash. I was always afraid the booms were the mine going off.

The game is still available today. And still hideously expensive.
