Reloading external torpedoes

I’ve seen a couple of posts about this but I can’t seem to find them anymore..

As I remember you have to drag external torps in the torpedo screen to the reserve slots and the sub has to be surfaced and not moving on a calm sea.

I’ve tried this. My fore external one has been slowly loading over a period of about two weeks.

What’s the trick?

Is this in game? Do you mean the torpedo man crew member? Via the crew management screen?

I had a look and the box is checked. It says under the instructions to initiate a dialog with him (F12 key). The problem is F12 takes a screenshot. So does Ctrl + F11 apparently.

What is the dialogue? I tried walking up to him and clicking but the only option is 'speed those boys up".

Any more via F12? If so how do I reconfigure the key?

Edit: I tried using a reassign keyboard mod ('ability 8') but nothing comes up in the way of dialogue.

Are we talking here about TWoS v2.2.18 here or about some custom made modlist?

You did activate the ability, right?

Yes I’m using latest version of TWOs.

The ability is activated ...there’s a lit cross in upper right of button. I assume that means activated. All the crew management is very vague.

My first external torp is still loading btw. About 3 weeks of it and it’s about 3/4 done. I’ve just refitted and there’s nowhere for it to go if it ever gets done. I tried again before refit on the surface for several hours but no joy.

I finally managed it.

For the record (in case anyone else searches for this) the ‘active ability ‘ needs to not have the cross symbol top right, but to be fully orange.

Drag torp, go click on Kurt and tell him to initiate, wait 3 or 4 hours and pray for no ac or warships. I started at midnight.

2 subsequent missions and no reloading.
