I'm in the 45th game hour of shadowing a convoy, waiting for the wind/waves to go down to attack. No fog throughout. Glad there is tc. Using Hsie' s weather mod via his patch.
I know a reloaded saved game can mess with the weather. Pausing the game for awhile do the same ?

Yes the only thing that I have found out that will really mess the weather up was TC

Ok, thank guys. I never go above 256x, so no problem there. Guess I'll keep shadowing the convoy until the wind drops.
So many great chances to attack if only the wind/waves would calm down !

Depending what mod you’re playing, but waves often hide you and makes things difficult for DDs to hear/detect you ... it’s very difficult to approach a convoy when flat sea. I always prey for bad weather

John,
I always do a save in 1TC and in the Navigational Map screen. Never really had issues with game saves or weather. Currently just overtook a convoy in CG 17 and moving into a forward position on the stb side of the convoy around 10 km from it. It is now just past midnight and in a short while the ball will begin. Good hunting, FUBAR295

Convert 12 m/s on up to a Beaufort scale equivalent, and I seriously doubt an attack would have been possible in real life. 11 is even pushing it. Also the rubber duckiness of the boats in GWX make most shots miss anyway in those winds. (Even after I applied Thomsen's Parameters to them).

After 50 game hours, the wind just broke. 1pm, June 29th, 1942. No escorts in sight on a large convoy.
Excuse me while I make an artificial reef in the North Atlantic.

Four fired, three hits on two ships. One must have ran deep. Only known escorts astern of the convoy.
Thought about turning for a stern shot, but had a closing escort so diving deep now, turning into the escort. Try to go under him in the opposite direction.

Out of interest, what "high TC" setting do you folks figure messes up the weather routine?
I like FUBAR's idea of saving in TC 1 at the nav screen. ![]()

John,
Check this if you already haven't; https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...d.php?t=225353 I also seem to remember something about when the game is saved, the weather clock is reset, but not sure if it is H.sie or Stiebler fix that this occurs. Good hunting, FUBAR295

Thanks Fubar, I have that weather option too. I seem to recall Hsie's fix resets it allowing an immediate change possibility, because otherwise upon loading a saved game, the clock has to cycle through a day or two before a change might happen or something like that.

This is from H.sie PDF file :
20. Bad Weather Fix Some people reported about a serious bug in sh3: The weather sometimes sticks at high windspeeds with 15m/s, fog and no visibility. This bug no more exists. What does this Fix do? Mainly nothing. It does not change the sh3 weather algorithm at all and will only be active, when strom- or fog periods are too long. It consists of two independent counters: A STORM_COUNTER that counts the number of weather periods with 15m/s windspeed, and a FOG_COUNTER that counts the number of weather periods with fog. If STORM_COUNTER reaches a certain maximum value (see below), the fix forces a reduction of the windspeed. If FOG_COUNTER reaches a certain maximum value (see below), the fix reduces clouds and thus also fog. Maximum values for the COUNTERS · The maximum value for STORM_COUNTER is 5 weather periods. · The maximum value for FOG_COUNTER is 3 weather periods. The maximum values for both counters (default: 5 and 3) can be adjusted in the hsie.ini file. So if you want better weather with less storm and fog, reduce these values to 4 and 2 (or even 3 and 1). I also programmed a little chance that this weather-controlling mechanism described above is bypassed in order to keep some uncertainty, so that a little chance remains for storm- and fog periods longer than the maximum values. This Fix also fixes a bug, that the weather time counter is not saved in a savegame, so that the counter always starts at 0 every time you load a mission or savegame. That means, that the first weather change always occurs exactly after a full weather period (20 - 40 hours). Now, the time counter is initialized with a randomly chosen value between 0 and 95% of the weather period, so that a weather change shortly after loading a mission is possible. Compatibility · Multiplayer: Not tested yet, but I don't think it works for Multiplayer mode. Good Hunting FUBAR295
