Hi guys, Im playing with the TWoS mod. I have a question regarding when to engage targets based on nationality.
I have the flag chart. Im able to identify ships when i need to. But I often find it hard to make a decision on when its okay to engage a vessel. For example: I'm patrolling the coastal waters off the coast of Britain and I run across a Polish tanker with its lights out. Its early 1940 in the game for me so technically I dont think Its warranted to engage this vessel. But I remember that BDU had sanctioned attacks on all tankers regardless of nationality, especially those that are inbound/outbound of the UK. I guess my question is, is there a reference guide that clearly outlines whos fair game and who is not and when?

Actually I would love a clear answer on that, cause I am at the stage, december 1939 - January 1940. On the Eastern coast of England, on my way back to Wilhem. I sunk 2 Norwegian boats, lights out, going straight to England etc ...
I had the same BDU message, in short that all neutral ships going to england are to be considered hostile etc.. They are reported as neutral ships in my log anyway... and I lost merit points ![]() |

All out attacks on any shipping like Dönitz wanted were prevented by both Raeder as well as Hitler in the early war years. Since Poland was occupied late 1939 Polish ships going to the UK if that is totally clear are fair game. The rest is not. Concentrate on allied Nations like Canada and Australia. Do not engage other ships of Nations not yet in the war on the allied side.
Of course the settings in the game which Nation is fair game I am not certain about, but if you keep to the history of the real U Boat offensive you should be okay. See also: https://uboat.net/allies/merchants/losses_year.html And : .

Agreed. In historical sense you are right. By game parameters you are wrong. I want merit points so I follow parameters. If I am really unsure... I follow the U-boat commander guide book... always attack.

It's quite simple: All you have to do is looking on the map, zoom it out and go look if the country is in red with red names: this means it's enemy and all shipping is free for the hunt. At least that's right for me because I'm not playing with Real Navigation.
The only thing you should not do is sinking german shipping: I think this ends the campaign for you ![]() |

IF you guys are having troubles to decide "when to shoot", you can also use "TWoS Neutrals Illuminated Only_Until [Date]" add-on.
That way, neutral nations will be always illuminated, untill the nation joins allies or axis powers, pretty much like in GWX. ![]() Few lines from twos changelogs: Quote:
