Started recording my exploits:
No map contacts, no map plotting, no external tools, manual targeting, visual attacks. Almost never miss. Can do tutorials if there is interest. |

I understand you just do a gut feeling pretty much zero gyro shot like you would hit an innocent birdy with a shotgun? Sometimes I think that if they had had a training procedure to learn it, submarines would have been better to have done that in the real war.
We had a great and very technical targeting system. But it depended on ship identification. The vast majority of enemy ships shot at during the war were grossly misidentified. Only radar saved their miserable butts from missing more than they did. Too bad they didn't have simulation technology to expose the weaknesses of their methods and develop seat of the pants horse sense.

![]() But yeah in the real world, with the absence of reliable ship data. A zero gyro shot from close range is the best way to go. You would just need to a decent speed estimate. For that you can just input some "best guess" range and speed into the TDC and look at the track with the position keeper on. If you fire with zero gyro the range doesn't matter, just adjust the speed till the track is correct (something i actually do quite alot). AOB can be done visually. Your AOB can be off by quite a few degrees and be fine if you fire from the optimal position. Last edited by gutted; 12-26-16 at 04:19 AM. |
