Default Old Topic; Still Could Use Some Help

I've recently got back into playing SH4 and am having some problem with settings for my GPU. My GPU BTW is an XFX Radeon 7950 4GB. What I'm getting is a very bad stutter when playing SH4. It does not stop me from playing the game it is just annoying. I'm not looking for an AMD vs Nvidia discussion here just some help to get rid of the problem I'm having.

Have you tried turning all the graphics options off? If that fixes the problem, you could turn them up one by one until you find out which one is the culprit.

If you are running Win7 or Vista you can try Disabling the Aero theme and see if that helps.
Disable Aero
Win7
1.Choose Start > Control Panel > Personalization, or right-click desktop choose personalization.
2.Select any of the themes in the Basic And High Contrast Themes category.

Vista
1.Choose Start > Control Panel.
2.In the Appearance and Personalization section, click Customize Color.
3.Click Open Classic Appearance Properties For More Color Options.
4.Select a Color Scheme other than Windows Aero, and then click OK.

Enable Aero
Win7
1.Choose Start > Control Panel > Personalization, or right-click desktop choose personalization.
2.Select any of the themes in the Aero Themes category or in the My Themes category, if you saved a personalized Aero theme.

Vista
1.Choose Start > Control Panel.
2.In the Appearance and Personalization section, click Customize Color.
3.Choose Windows Aero from the Color Scheme menu, and then click OK.

Are you using the 'd3d9 Antilag' with the 4 Gb Patch?

Fitzcarraldo suggested it in post 27:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=202192

You're probably aware of both however that is all I can think of....

Actually, I'm using Win 10. I apologize for not mentioning this. I'm also have 8 GBs of ram in my computer. Would I be able to use the 4 gig patch?

You should be able to get acceptable performance without the 4Gb patch.

I have an older machine, a less capable graphics card, less RAM, etc., and I get good performance, provided I deselect the volumetric fog option. That one makes the frame rates drop in any exterior view (fog or no fog).

You might try to find a newer/older/different driver for your card.

Yeah, this machine is starting to show its age too, and SH4 ran fine on the machine it replaced.

Here's something worth checking. Look into temporarily disabling your audio drivers (not just muting the sound). I've seen audio drivers cause issues like that before. I don't know win 10 all that well so can't advise on how you go about that correctly.

For graphic drivers I'm kinda locked in, 15.7 is the only set of graphic drivers at the moment that is compatible with Win 10. As for audio drivers, I'll have to look into that.

I have heard of many issues with win 10 and bad drivers or driver issues trying to run on win 10 so I think your having a driver issue there.

the guys here are very smart and can solve "most" computer issues, just be aware they have a lot of jerks there that don't treat people respectfully so be prepared to deal with 2 year olds lol.

http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/

in the short term I think its best to roll back to win 7 and wait a year or so for win 10 to get things working right and "proper" drivers developed for it.

Webster, as always I always appreciate your input when comes to SH4. I've had this problem before, and as I get older and more senile I don't remember some things like I used to. That being said I just can't remember what I did that alleviated the problem.

As for rolling back my OS to Win 7, I don't think that will happen. However, I do appreciate the suggestion.
