Well, I'm in the middle of it myself.

What it seems to do is patch the SH5 executable, correcting a bunch of game bugs and adding enhancements.

One thing I don't understand is during the initial launch it keeps asking the path for a bunch of files. Doesn't everything live in the SH5 folder?

Anyway once you get it running you can enable any of the options listed. There are descriptions for each of the options.

I guess this then updates (patches) the executable, though I don't see any button that says "patch the executable".

So I guess it just does it when you set the option(s) to enable.

Exactly...Or you can select file and then restore snapshot option which will do all the job for you. A snapshot is .gps file which contains all predefined settings for the patcher...

Why when you first run the patcher does it ask you for paths for these files?

1. Cameramanager.act

2. EnvSim.act

3. SimData.dll

4. Kernel.dll

5. Sh5.exe

6. SHCollisions.act

7. SHSim.act

8. SHSound.act

9. SH_NClient.dll

Aren't these all in the same place? Why do I have to provide the same path 9 times?

If you check both SH5 threads, someone else has found out how to use the TDW patcher with steam. Personally, I do not have steam so I can not help you with it.

I went and bought the Amazon version so I did not have to fool about with the steam version.

Anyway. I just discovered the Wolves of Steel "megamod", and it has pretty clear directions (and not too many steps) on how to install the megamod and the patcher. It even includes a file that tells the patcher what patches to enable.
