Default PC sentenced for shoplifter punch

Not a very intelligent officer and looking at his previous I think it best he will soon be no longer in a position to perform the way he has.

Is it time to abolish the Met?
It does seem like the barrel is rotten and it isn't just a few bad apples.

You could say that about just about any inner city police force, I don't think abolishing the Met would do any good, but something does need to change, the problem is identifying what this is, and tackling it in a manner which does not erode the police forces ability to pursue criminals.

What would you have done, Jim? Kicked her? Taser?

Events like this occur on this side of the pond all the time and police officers usually get away with it.

TBH, neither....she was in the custody of a LEO and the premises were obviously under cctv conditions so why risk a career by going OTT for a mere shoplifter?

Well she did bite his finger and claim to have aids. Did he punch her to release his finger?

In the 70's giving a stroppy Ned a bit of summery justice was common place.

Cheers

The thing there is that quite regularly they have events where evidence becomes so overwhelming that their continued flat out denials and concerted attempts at covering up their problem fail. It goes back decades.
When it gets to that stage they hold yet another inquiry, the inquiries always seem to come down to identifying the systematic and institutional problems present in that force.
Then the police say they are going to fix it, they shuffle a few faces, maybe change the name of a unit, throw an occasional bobby to the wall then carry on exactly the same as before. Until the next inquiry which uses exactly the same words about the institutional and systematic failings of the Met. which then issues the same empty words about reform and fixing their problem.

I was just sitting here musing as to why his finger was in her mouth to begin with. I mean c'mon! Handling a shoplifter is like handling a shark. It's best to use a gaffing pole.
