Default shcollisions.act crash

Hi all!
So I've been playing SH4 for a long time now with TMO2.5 and RSRDC plus some other mods. A couple of months ago I had to format my PC due to hardware issues and I got a new CPU and HD because of that.

I now reinstalled the game and mods but found out that for some reason the mod that gives 25% more damage to the torpedos are crashing the game as soon as torpedo makes contact with a hull. With the previous game (before format) it never happened. Even worse now I got some weird flickering of the sky at some specific angles in night time.

Anyone know what it might be?

One guess, video card setting? The mod;

Webster's Improved US Torpedo for v1.4 and v1.5\Webster's Improved US Torpedo v1

Is the one I'm using, I recently reinstalled the stock SH4 patched to 1.4 and tested before installing any mods, I get the occasional flickers along with phantoms in rainy weather;

What I got;

Operating System: Windows XP Media Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3
Model: Dell DXP051
Power supply: 550 watts
CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 3.40GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2GB Crucial Ballistix 800mhz (throttled down to 633 because Dell sucks)
Video: NVIDIA GeForce GT430 1GB
Sound: SB Audigy
Hard Drives:
C:Western Digital WD5000AAKX-001CA0 462.0 GB 7200rpm
F:SanDisk SDSSDH120GG25 114.5 GB solid state drive

The flickering and phantom lookout are not annoying enough to bother with, altho I did try stuff like forcing Vsynch on, no change. But I don't get a crash with Webster's torpedo mod. Do you have a copy of the stock game you can test to see if the crash happens without Webster's mod?

After installing the latest NVIDIA driver I started getting the occasional flashes at night as well. I pretend it's heat lightning.

I have:

Operating system: Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3
CPU: Intel Pentium III Xeon, 3000 MHz (6.5 x 462)
RAM: 2048MB
Video: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 (2048 MB)
Sound: Intel 82801GB ICH7 - High Definition Audio Controller [A-1]

I have version 1.5 and I use another torpedo mod

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1345

I don't have those ghostly figures in my game though.
I hope the flickers aren't drivers. If the angle is right it doesn't flicker but the sky remains a light blue. It gets really weird.

Thanks for comments!

I updated nVidia driver from 301 to 310 and it flashed like crazy.
I am running a GT520 card. I went back to 301 and it disappeared.
So I loaded up driver 306 and it seems fine, but that's about as high
as I can go without the lighting flashes.

"I have version 1.5 and I use another torpedo mod"

My guess is the crash and the flickering are not related, try it without the mod and see if you can duplicate the crash without the mod. The crash is the more serious of the two gripes since you can still play with the flickering, so I would focus on troubleshooting the crash first.

I did a full test and reinstalled the game.
>First I installed the game and tested. All good.
>Rebooted, installed patch 1.4 and tested. All good.
(flickering only starts once patch 1.5 is applied)
>Rebooted, installed patch 1.5 and tested. All good.
>Rebooted, installed JSGME and then activated only TMO2.5+RSRDC502 mods. All good.
>Activated all other mods. shcollisions.act crash the second a torpedo hits a ship.
>Removed 25%+ torpedo damage mod. All good.

What's more weird is that in submarine school it never crashes with the mod activated. It only does in careers, single missions or war patrols, but never in submarine school.

So Once again +25% torpedo damage is the problem. What changed? Why did it work before formatting the PC and now it doesn't?

I had the same problem with torpedoes when I was trying out TheDarkWraith Depth charge water disturbances mod, this is the link for that mod, http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=181540 there is also a link for the crash fix by razark in post 59, it could help with your torpedo problem as it did with mine.

I was unsure about the installation so I'm going to write my procedure here:

I deactivated all mods.
Went to TMO2.5/data/library and put the water disturbance file in there
Activated TMO2.5 +RSRDC + 25%+torp damage in JSGME

Result:
shcollisions.dat crash

This is what it says on the torpedo download page,
here is the TORPEDO +20_ or +25_ more powerful.7z mod im not sure if this 1.5 compatible either so you will have to check it commander lare.
I would download Webster's Improved US Torpedo for v1.4 and v1.5, if that mod crashes as well it would rule out any problem with the torpedo mod you are currently using.

Yeah... Webster's improved US torpedo mod caused the same crash.
I used the V1 (25%)

It's really weird.

I believe your problem is here. Others have reported crashes with this. I think there is a fix, but since I don't use TMO, I can't give you details.

But I installed that file according to Moonlight's instructions, to prevent the crash, not to cause it. With or without that file the game still crashes

What order did you activate your mods?

If you put the fix for the water disturbance file in, but a later mod, such as 25%+torp damage, overwrites it, that would cause the problem.

The order is
TMO2.5>RSRDC>25%torp damage

Well, of course I have to put the 25%+torpedo damage last or else TMO would overwrite the Torpedoes_US.zon file

Plus the water disturbance file is called
TMO2_fix_for_TDW_DC_Water_Disturbance_v2_0_SH4.dat

The file type is different and description is different. How can it overwrite the torpedo damage mod and vice versa?
