Default Ever taken out an entire convoy?

I just did. That's why I'm up at 6am. Don't think I'll be working today.

4 escorts and 5 ships, so maybe it wasn't the biggest convoy ever, but it's the principle of the thing!

Stock 1.2 on hardest difficulty, but no mods.

I once took out a convoy of about 12 ships.

When I ran out of torpedoes, I manned the deck gun.

Mod it sir. That convoy will become much more tense!

Good job but with no mods I cant say it's very hard. Mod it and if you manage that with some destroyers on your ass after sinking the first merchant, well that would be something.

I'm not bragging but I've done it with about 12 ships plus their escorts. But.... I'm also using the 'Sort of .IX Boat Mod v1a' by Gap. Gives you the same amount of torpedoes and the Type IX does. And when they're gone, the deckgun cleans up.

Find it on this page in the Download section... 6th mod from the bottom. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...p?do=cat&id=81

And I'm also using the 'VIIC41 Start with in beginning of campaign'.

Congrats, what a rush!

And whose got time for work when you could be obliterating entire convoys?

Here's an idea. If you are just starting 'Happy Times' head for Scapa Flow for your route to drop off the "Infiltrator". Check and see what ships are in port and/or moving in or out on June 16th 1940. Go after the big ships if they are heading out to sea and once you sink them see what the escorts do. If you have have enough torpedos left start taking them out too. Save some tho as you could need them the rest of the way to the dropoff point. It would be intesting to see how many variations will come about.

I play fairly hardcore, and I consider myself lucky if I sink anything at all. I've had several empty patrols, and I like it that way. I think my best patrol ever was six or eight ships and around 30,000 tons.

I'm using NYGM in early 1940, with eels that run too deep, realistic deckgun effectiveness and ship flooding, i'd be hard pushed to sink an entire convoy!

Default Once I loaded IRAI....no

Sinking a whole lot of ships in a convoy can be thrilling if you're off of northern Briton and there are no escorts, it's foggy, and like one of our other mates mentioned, all the torpedoes are gone so the deck gun is taking care of anything else in range,...BUT...
One I loaded IRAI, the destroyer escorts seemed to get a little bit ticked off about a U-Boat making them look bad. I sink one ship and "here they come". Fast dive and wait patiently until they are searching another sector. Come back up and Fire again and "here they come"!! This time they're not so quick to leave the area!
Anyway, you can see my point. The later the war gets, the better they seem to get as well.
Gute Jagd!
