Default My first kill!

So, we'll share this here since my wife was NOT nearly as impressed as she should have been .

Just picked up SHIII the other day, immediately threw on GWX Gold and another mod that causes fires to cause continual damage (can't remember who put it together, but major kudos!). Started up and immediately went with full realism (Okay, I have map updates on, but that's the only crutch I'm using).

Started with the 1st Flotilla, meaning I'm in a Type IIa (I don't trust myself with the big, expensive ones, I doubt anyone else would either). Shakedown patrol, no problems. War broke out during my second patrol, but weather was so bad I couldn't find anything, RTB with low fuel. Third patrol, about the same (I think the Brits are controlling the weather in the North Sea area, every time I go out it's storming like hell). Gave up and started heading back to Kiel at 50% fuel, decided to drop down to 25m depth and do one last hydrophone sweep of the area... and picked up a slow, heavy 'thrum' of a merchant diesel engine.

Great, start working out a bearing and move to intercept. Weather is..well, pitch black, pouring rain, and wind speeds between 8-11 knots, but I'm not giving up my first contact. Hit periscope depth and finally get a visual at 800m distance, running a parallel course. Got ahead of her, set-up a 90-degree attack angle, and put two fish in the water, both hit (one forward of midship and one aft, but I'll take what I can get). Twenty minutes later, she went down, 8,000 tons worth of ore carrier.

Maybe not the best story, but I was pretty darn proud of myself for that one.

Everything went perfect, right up until I ran into a pair of DD's and at least 1 Frigate on my way back to Kiel. That didn't end well, I'm afraid.

Starting out as a new subsimmer, that is an impressive start. dealing with Sea State 5-6 is a norm and you should get used to it. If your crew is not sea sick, you are not in the Atlantic or North Sea. Pulling this off in a dugout canoe is even more impressive.

Aggresiver sein!!!!!

Repeat after me: Straits of Dover means DEATH. Straits of Dover means DEATH.

One more time: Straits of Dover means DEATH.

I knew you could.
