Default Best game of the generation?

The next generation is almost here, so I am here to ask, what is in your opinion, the single best game this generation? I’ll go first, by platform and genre, my “games of the generation” is (Note, I count PC games from 2007 – now as this generation):

Platform exclusives:

PS3: Metal Gear Solid 4
Lets be honest here, it is simply the best game in early PS3 lineup. The game not just looked amazing and sounded amazing, but after I finished it, I was moved to tears for solid snake.

Xbox 360: Halo 4
Xbox doesn’t have nearly as many exclusives as the PS3 or Wii, and out of their exclusive lineup, Halo is probably is the most notable. Halo 4 is an amazing game, probably the best entry in the Halo generation, so Halo 4 is arguably the best Xbox 360 exclusive.

Wii: Wii sports
Wii sports was the best-selling game this generation. Everyone bought the Wii to play it, many people bought a Wii just to play it! It was influential enough to force Sony and Microsoft’s hand into making the Move and Kinect.

PSvita: Persona 4 Golden
OK, this is a remake, but seriously, Persona 4 golden is one of the BEST RPGs I have every played, considering that the Vita doesn’t have a particularly strong library, Persona 4 golden is easily the best game this gen.

PC: Shogun 2 Total War
Ok, I am seriously biased here, Shogun total war was the first game I ever bought for the PC (I played my uncle’s games before hand). Shogun 2 total war is AMAZING, in AI, balance, graphics, sound, every single aspect EVER!
I never had a 3DS, so unfortunately, I can’t name a game of the generation.

By Genre:

Shooter: Call of Duty 4
Ok, lets be honest here, if we are working on a timeline of shooters, you can probably see a distinct shift in shooters, before call of duty 4, and after call of duty 4. COD 4 was the first game where I actually feel like I am in an epic war movie, I feel like Arnold Schwarzenegger. GET TO THE CHOPPA!

Racer: Need for Speed Most Wanted (original)
This game was one of the launch titles of the Xbox 360, it was my first game of this generation. The gameplay was great! The graphics was amazing, the balance was great, and the cut scenes were THE BEST YET!

Fighter: Dead or Alive 5
Ok, the competition in the fighter genre is tough, there are very many good fighters this gen. But in my opinion, Dead or Alive 5 is the best fighter. The gameplay is VERY smooth, the fights are well done. The combo and the grappling system is great!

Stealth game: Metal Gear Solid 4
It is seriously one of the best games ever. The drama easily rivals any of the best TV shows. Its simply the best, nuff said!

Strategy: Shogun 2 total war
Ok, this generation wasn’t really that good for strategy games, there is only very few good ones.

Simulator: Silent Hunter 4
I really liked Silent Hunter 4. I liked the subs, the systems, the gameplay. Also, considering that the competition in this genre is very weak, I would say Silent Hunter 4 is easily the best.

RPG: (to be determined, I really find it hard to name the best RPG this gen)

Hack n Slash: Metal Gear Rising: Revengence
Ok, so the genre has been dominated by Dynasty warriors for a long time. Metal Gear Rising is a great hack and slash, the mechanics feel great, and it really made Raiden into a badass.

Platformer: Little Big Planet Vita
Ok, so Genre dominated by Mario for so long, Little big Planet feels like a refreshing breath of fresh air. The Vita version implements the Vita control scheme perfectly. It offers almost infinite replayability, and the protagonist was truly charming.

Ok, so these are the best games this gen that I can think of, what are yours?

Ah...man....This is a hard question to answer for me. I love too many games. I'll make a quick list for Xbox. It's just a rough little list. There are way too many games I love to put down here.

Xbox 360:

Shooter: Half Life 2, CoD Black Ops 2, CoD 2, and Rainbow Six Vegas 1+2

RPG: Tie between Fallout New Vegas and Dead Island.....but Skyrim is probably beating both of those games

Strategy/Sim: I liked the Battlestations series and EndWar

Racing: Midnight Club Los Angeles

Sports: N/A

While I do not really believe in the notion that there is a single 'best game' occupying a category, I'll try to pick the game I like the most in each genre of those released after 2007. Some categories will obviously be missing if I think I can't evaluate them or I can't think of anything notable, and this will also be PC only since, while I have played some console games, I've not played very many of them. So there:

First-Person Shooter
: For this one I shall have to go with Russian Death Simulator: 1942...I mean, Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad.

Action-Adventure: Magicka.

Role-Playing Game: Most definitely Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer, followed by Fallout: New Vegas. Mount & Blade: Warband as well; I think it should occupy a different category but I can't think of which.

Real-Time Tactics: Men of War: Assault Squad. Sure, it is frustrating as hell at times, but it's still a very good game.

Real-Time Strategy: Wargame: European Escalation. Can't think of anything else.

Turn-Based Tactics: XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Not a perfect X-COM remake by any means, but it is definitely a very good one.

Turn-Based Strategy: Sid Meier's Civilization V, I believe.

Grand-Strategy Game: Hearts of Iron III, Victoria II, Crusader Kings II. Multi Kill!

Tactical Wargame - I'd go with the newer Combat Mission games, mostly because I cannot think of many other games in this category that both came out after 2007 and that I have actually played. Camo Workshop's latest versions of Steel Panthers still own this category, but though they may well have been released after 2007 (I am not sure) they are certainly not 'current generation'.

EDIT: Oh, maybe Histwar: Les Grognards too.

Operational Wargame - Command Ops: Battles from the Bulge, easily enough. This is what computer wargames should be but nearly never are.

Strategic Wargame - War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition. There are some other very good ones, like War in the East, but I'd say this one wins.

Combat Flight Simulator - DCS in general. Any real competition here? Maybe Rise of Flight...

Naval Combat Simulator - Err...Silent Hunter IV?

Infantry Combat Simulator - ArmA II. Ha, I dodged having to pick between this and RO2 for FPS.

Space Simulator
- Kerbal Space Program, naturally. X3: Terran Conflict as well; it's a different genre but it's still called a space simulator for some reason.

Anything I've missed?

Yep, you've missed Orbiter as the best Space Simulator, definately.
KSP is fantastic, but not so much a simulator as Orbiter.

I would have said Orbiter, but that was released in 2000 and I only included games released after 2007.
