I'm playing with some new intercept tactics (for me at least), and am wondering what is the average visual range of ships are in the game.
I read somewhere here that the visual range for ships is 5.5 km, and that escorts can travel up to 7 km ahead of the convoy. Does this sound correct?? My mod list is in my signature. (Basically Sober's MOD list) Thanks

Because you are using sobers mod list and includes IRAI you will find that ships crew get tired , they have crew roster rotations . You might think that you are safe one minute then someone spots you . As the war progresses you will need all the latest equipment available so you will need renown to get it . Scout convoys from far away and gather intelligence like how many escort and how far away from each other . Attack using wolfpacks rather than go it alone . Pray .

Also, attack at night, slipping through the escorts and into the convoy at dead slow.
They can only see around 500m before seeing you. Your torpedoes have a minimum range of 800m. Sink Them.

If that's true then there's something wrong. Minimum range on most torpedoes was around 300 meters.

I agree with that. I've been sinking escorts at 400 to 600 meters when they come head-on after my Uboat, with the pistol set to magnetic. They cannot escape unless they are out past 900 meters and it's a side shot.

Absolutely. I routinely score hits in SH5 at ranges as low as four to five hundred meters. Not sure why anyone would suggest such a high figure.
