So I started my new career, August 1, 1939 and took my boat out for a shakedown cruise, patrolling AN95.
Getting my guys some experience and qualifications. As I approach Heligoland the sounds of sirens and warning klaxon's reach my ears, all of a sudden the shore batteries start firing on my boat. Long story short, because I am late reacting to the damage (when it started I was under 64x TC) and soon sink. I was on the surface, but was just steaming along at 14kts, with no "gunnery or topedo practice taking place that would indicate to the shore that I was a threat. Anyone else had this happen? So, I guess I will have to start a new career. ![]() |
