Default Really considering SH 5...but some questions.

From what I can tell...SH 5 has improved a lot.

First off, wondering if my system will be able to handle it.My PC is barely 6 months old but was disappointed when I purchased a copy of IL-2 Cliffs of Dover and it would not run the game properly.SH 5 seems like it may be a bit demanding.

Are there mods to kill the bugs? Are there mods that allow the campaign to go beyond 1943(which is just lazy on UBI's part) Are there more playable submarines other than the type VII? DRM was patched out correct?

SH 5 is really cheap now so not worried about the money, just dont want to waste my time but it looks like it has potential.

I've never played so far yet to confirm this....

Yes it has.

It is, but that can be overcome. What are your specs?

Yes. Look to TheDarkWraith. There are others, but his are a good place to start. I can't tell you much more, because my seven-year-old single-core system barely runs it at all.

Yes, but that's already been answered. I only addressed it because it's not laziness, but poor planning (at least by my judgement). Rather than just having you go out and sink ships as they did in real life, they tried to inject a command structure, in which you have to sink X tonnage by Y date, or the campaign doesn't progress. This has nothing to do with any real campaign. I understand that there are mods which fix that as well, but my PC won't let me get far enough to verify it.

No. The reason is that they wanted to model the complete interior of the boat so you could walk all around. To do that for more than one type of boat would take a lot more time than they were allowed. The good news is that the interiors of the different variants are also different.

Many months ago.

It definitely has potential, and is closer to fulfilling it every day. Whether it has what you want at this point is a judgement call. Even if my PC would run it I'd still be playing all the others as well, but that's because it doesn't yet have everything I'm looking for. Emphasis on "yet".

Decided to purchase it online for $4.95.They have a gold edition? Should I go with it on just the regular. What is the difference? Also...specs are below according to DXDIAG.

Specs:
ASUS CM 1730/CM 1830
Windows 7 home 64 bit
AMD athlon II X2 220 processor(2CPU) 2.8GHz
4096 MB RAM
Page File:1823MB used 5853 MB available
DIRECTX 11

Video card:ATI AMD 670G
Chip Type:ATI display adapter(0x9616)
DAC:Internal DAC(400MHz)
Approx total memory is 1916 MB

Plenty of RAM from what I can tell, not sure if video card will be a problem.I'm basically clueless when it comes to video cards etc.

Gold bad! Bad gold!

SH4 Gold of course is the complete edition, with the U-boats added in. SH5 Gold has some of the extra unlockable ships added in, at least from what I've heard. If you can get it for the same price, go for it. If it costs more, from the reports it's not worth it.

Looks good to me, at least worlds better than mine. I'm a bit confused about the graphics card though. I know the four-number ATI cards, but I'm unfamiliar with the three-number cards, and I tried looking up the 670g with no luck at all.

No problem. It was you who called me on transferring GT subjects to other forums, and you were right. What I think about politics has nothing to do with Silent Hunter.

Typo. The card is the AMD 760G not the 670G, ooops.

I agree, politics are well politics and should not carry over to the other forums.I would help out mookie or even tribes if they had a question on here(but don't recall ever seeing them post outside of GT.I have friends, good friends even, who I do not see eye to eye with politically but we are friends, hang out often etc. I may not care for their political thinking but hey good people and it is how I look at people here for the most part.I actually hope we can all make it to a subsim meet one day, I would like to meet you and some of the others from GT.Odds are, would get along for most part. I am sure there are some scotch drinkers among us, I get along with anyone who enjoys a nice single malt. lol

...reckon you'll have to be very patient and learn how to install mods correctly.
i was dissapointed - even with the mods, and i thought i dont want to spend many many hours trying to make this thing work. that should be the developers job. it seems a lot of trial and error is needed and i just gave up - it did my head in. it looks truely beautiful and i think thats the way forward. but my SH3 runs very smooth, has many many great mods and is a joy to go to - not so, for me, with SH5. give it a few years yet and maybe a super mod like GWX to consolidate all the mods that make it work well and give it the stability and polish it so desperatly needs.

I had to do a little research. If I'm understanding correctly the 760g is an integrated chipset that attaches to the motherboard for high-quality integrated graphics. It's commonly accepted that a dedicated graphics card will always be better than onboard integrated graphics, but the reviews I read do give the 760g high marks, so it might do just fine, and if it doesn't you can always look into a new card at a later date. I'm using a fairly low-rent AMD 4650, but that's about the best I can ever have for my old AGP slots.

There are, but being allergic to alcohol I'm not one of them.
