I would like that ships will be available in real time, and not randomly generated, I would prefer to have 200,000 ships travelling in real time than have it randomly generated to be able to perform real search patterns, if ships are generated randomly, no search pattern is truelly effective. It can become somewhat cpu intensive, but im sure it can be worked out with a few smart algorithms.
I would also like a newspaper show up by the end of the mission for special ships sunk, kind of like in transport tycoon when a new vehicle becomes available you can see a news article about it. You don't have to have the news article pop up every time, but you can have the news article paper available in port so that the player can review the last few weeks shipping sunk, not just by himself but by any other uboat captain as well. Ability to walk into a naval office while in port, sit down in a chair and talk with your chief, that would be a cool feature. To make this work, they could implement text bubbles instead of speeches, in order to make it way more dynamic, sort of like Super Cars II on the Amiga when talking to the bankier, a text bubble can be way more dynamic. I'm not sure how this would be implemented, perhaps it can be combined with sound snippets. Another feature I would love to see is that when you sink a ship it should really affect the war in total, the ships should be permanently gone, and the game would have to calculate for the monthly production. Each country can produce so so many ships per month, so if you sink 6 ships in one month and great britain produces 10 ships per month, then you are 4 in short. I would like to see more realistic weather based on where you are in the world, I know that some places in the world the weather is more or less always windy and chaotic at sea, so the game engine will have to account for that some places the weather doesnt always become nice and calm. I would like to see many more situations where you are attacked by hordes of aircrafts, not just one or two, but sometimes there are entire air fleets bombing. They should be more effective too, the original AI is way too weak. Uboats, warships and q-boats must have realistic ammunition amounts. Cruisers for example, have thousands of shells aboard. The sound engine must be much more reliable, ambient sounds must stop playing when it should stop playing, this does not always happen, and all sounds must be optimized and made as small as possible and also vary a great deal more than they do with sh5. Much more variation is needed. There should be a new variation time compression available, one that you can plot a path and then you can click "Go" or something similar, then the screen will go black instantly and then instantly fade back to normal and the route/path has been taken instantly, if there are enemies along the route it will stop where there are enemies. This type of time compression can make the game more playable if you don't have all that much time to play all day. To make this more fun or challenging, perhaps adding a 10 second delay between black-screen and normal screen can add some fun to it so that you have to wait 10 seconds with a black screen before you get to the destination point. This black screen can also be replaced with an animation of the captain sitting in the uboat drinking coffee with the crew ![]() Also, the standard time compression system must be optimized, pathfinding algorithm should be optimized and extended so that you can travel in river channels without spending a day plotting the points (Yes there are scripts for this, but I still think it should be part of the game) or to simplify this having an option to save your path so you can reload your personal paths in another mission. Different option I would like to see is to be able to plot course with different shapes, perhaps put in a circular shape in one place and the uboat will make a complete circle on that spot, or you can make triangular shapes, all kinds of useful shapes, not just points. You could make these shapes smaller or larger using the mouse wheel for example. I would also like to see "intelligent shapes" added to the game, you could for example design an route-shape like an xor port or like a signal system in transport tycoon, if one part of the route is busy with traffic the uboat will automatically take the other route where the shape is placed, it is sort of like a signal system, but in this case the executive officer or someone else will "virtually" make the decision if there are lots of traffic. I want more special missions too, for example, transport important person from point A to point B (I know you can already do this in sh5, but I want to see more special missions in the campaign) A little bit fish animation in the sea cannot hurt. The stars during night time should be improved to be more realistic by using real star maps pictures. I think the damage bar on target ships should be gotten rid of and replaced by "lucky shots" and similar. You can get a lucky shot from time to time. Ability to go to sleep in the captains bed, you can set the amount of time you want to sleep, then the screen will fade to black and back to normal again and that amount of time have elapsed, unless a crisis situation occured and someone woke you up, this can be an alternative time compression feature. I think that all graphics objects in the game are way too sharp, have too sharp edges and appear so "pointy" "sharp", like if the ships were cut with a saw or a scissor. There must be an improvement in this area and I also think the scaling is a little off, the ships appear too small for my taste. Ability to throw parts of your crue on the sea, secretly behind the back of the naval headquarters, you can just say he died in an accident. Throw him to the sharks and continue the mission. Animating the crew when they jump off the ship or prepare lifeboats when the ship is sinking, this would be a cool animation and if there are crew in the midst of a fire I want them to die there, eventually turning into ashes, Last edited by DelphiUniverse; 09-28-11 at 09:18 AM. |

Sounds like you'd need a hefty computer to run this world simulator.

That was some list up there... yep, the turning into ashes is a must!
To step back a little, I would really like to get some info after the mission when I dock back in harbour. Now it's just back again in the subpen rushing for next assigment. There is even no "you have been awarded a medal!" screen. Only when you get new sub, there is a text screen... It's not a big thing, but it would really add more to the experience to get some feedback. Even just a list of ships you have sank, heck even a "Welcome back, sir!"-textbox would do. Is it possible, does somebody know? ![]() |

My ideas below is not well thought out, I made them just to get a brainstorm going, to get other to find new ideas.
But there is one thing I like about sh2, the menu and game music. It fits so much better for sub simulation. If they can step just a few inches back (doesnt have to go all the way back) but at least mix up a little bit of sh2 music with modern music. Btw. I have the original sh2 here, its even in a box, you don't find many boxed games anymore in the stores, I like the box. I also have Destroyer Command (Original) ![]() |

What the heck, I'll throw out my dream sim.
As a realism freak, I'd love to have all of the equipment on the sub act as it did in real life. No superpowers on crewmembers to make my torpedoes faster or able to make my engines go faster than they could have in real life. I'd like to have equipment breakdowns and malfunctions modeled. Periscopes that were useless at high underwater speed. Schnorkels that wouldn't work in rough seas. I'd like to have one puncture in your pressure hull possibly prevent you from diving. I'd like realistic escort behavior...no more deadly accurate guns from a Flower Corvette in a dense fog and sea state 7 from 8000 meters away. Realistic detection capabilities for merchant and escort watchmen - I'd like to play Silent Otto and be able to sneak into a convoy and then back out again. I'd like to be able to suppress the guns on a merchant ship with my flak guns. I'd like better sinking physics instead of hitpoints. I'd like airplanes that would drop out of a cloud and surprise your boat, not planes that lazily approach and that your watch crew spots from miles away, even at night. Q-ships. I'd like realistic orders. Shadow this convoy until reinforcements arrive. Go here and report the weather for a week. Mine this harbor entrance. For gods sake, realistic wolfpacks. It was what the U-boats were known for. I don't need Johann's soup to be accurately modeled. I don't need the crapper to have intricate detail. I don't need a brothel to visit between missions. All of that is periphery to the U-boat war. Splice a little bit of wartime footage of a boat leaving or entering dock when my mission starts and ends. That's enough for me.

I'd like some actual direction or narrative in the gameplay rather than the way SH games are just a bunch of random go here and kill stuff missions.

It is interesting, pertaining to the Silent Hunter series, that they essentially worked from SH2 on to try to recreate the original SH with modern graphics. I don't think that they ever got there. They got the graphics right, but never the gameplay.

I agree with sober that the different mods are excellent and I use them all the time, but I would never make a claim to stick with them over a new game at any cost, that would be a prediction and not so much an opinion as there exist no new games at the moment to have an opinion about. Modders are somewhat conservative and I understand that.

I want a GAME OF WW2 that would cover all battle simulations into ONE BIG HUGE GLOBE! ![]() Where your destiny belonged from where you serve: Wehrmacht, Kriegsmarine or Luftwaffe ![]() Wehrmacht: I want to participate in historicall land battles in particular army and all the wartime progress with all its invasions and retreats to be seen like in Arma 2 atmoshphere. Including player choosen branches as regular Infantry, Armored or Panzer divisions. Kriegsmarine: I want to see SH9 that has nice graphics, human close AI, tactics, with completly everything (usable equipment) that U-boats, destroyers, airplanes ever had at that time. Luftwaffe: I'm not the flight sim expert but I believe IL-2 Sturmovik atmoshphere would be great to see looking upwards doing your duty as Wehrmacht soldier and for pilots up in the sky as well. Where pilots could choose targets to attack on Arma2 land. If the plane is hit and if pilot use catapult and stays alive, he automaticaly switches to land units campaign untill he reaches friendly base, other friendly units units or suffers enemy captivity or death. What I ment to say here is to combine all available best known WW2 simulators into ONE Ultimate WW2 Simulator! To be simple, nothing would bring me more joy as if to be able to see about everything that happened or could be seen hapening in WW2 by Wehrmacht soldier, Captain of U-boat or Pilot of Luftwaffe in ONE peace of Simulator! WoW! ![]() Notes to myself: Dream on Papakilo, it's not going to happen at least in this life ![]() |

That's the thing. So many people are asking for an entire world simulator and saying they just want a subsim.
