Default Funny moments...

1939, and my type VII finds a convoy, with two steam torps left, and no apparent escort, I slip in at night and head to the heart of the convoy, and the way in is to gun it and slide behind a little coastal freighter and peek what is inside.

I am making sure all my crew is in the right spot when I hear shells overhead, I run to the deck and look down to see what I am facing.

HMS Rodney is in the middle.

I scream for scope and get off the surface just then, I hear and see BIG shells land around me. I think this is going to be the end.

But then I see the Coastal freighter burning, as the Rodney shells had hit and sunk it!

Tried to put two torps into the rodney, one hit, one dud, and it sailed off as I went home thinking that I better be more careful in 1939!

Wow thats must be kind of experience.
It sounds scary.

And big luck survive

Wow, you learn something every day...

Here I thought the Rodney was useless all this time...

Ha ha, funny one. GWX has enough complexity that creates undreamed of situations

Not sure if this is funny or just sheer dumb luck, but I thought I'd share it anyway.

I switched to manual targeting recently and I find it can be a bit overwhelming when in an attack where there are many targets. However, I had managed to get a good firing position on this one convoy five columns wide, but only three ships in each column. I am at the convoy's port side, aiming at the lead ship in the second column as seen from my position. It's a large freighter and a juicy target. So there I am, timing, measuring speed, distance (which is hard in rough seas with waves washing over my scope). Finally, I have something which resembles a working solution and I hit fire on a two torp salvo...only to notice that I forgot to open the tube doors.

Cursing myself for wasting a rather good shot by such a beginner's mistake, I lower the scope and begin to dive to evade the counter attack. After about a minute, the torpedoes are nearing the target and the event cam comes up. Sure enough, the torpedoes both miss the target astern...
Determined to reload and "get her next time round" I continue my dive when suddenly: "torpedo impact!". Oh, luck seems to be with me after all as one of the torpedoes apparently hit the second ship in the centre (third) column!

I switch to the external camera to catch a glimpse of what I hit and it turns out to be a big tanker that was hit mid-ships and is now on fire. As I am enjoying the fireworks on the tanker, suddenly another explosion: "torpedo impact!" The second torpedo struck the bow of the third ship in the fourth column! A mid sized freighter!

Due to the rough seas and I suppose the intense fire on the tanker, both ships took only minutes to sink (realistic sinking time is on). My luckiest miss ever!

A classic example of the stoopid AI in the SH3 game engine...put anything between yourself and the AI vessel and it will try to go through said barrier to get at you

I found a big convoy yesturday. Too bad i couldn't attack it at a 90 degree angle. I had to approach form the back of the convoy it was dark and i closed in surfaced up to 5000 meters to the HMS Repulse. Too bad THREE swan class Ships detected me and all three came at full speed in my direction. However i was able to sink all three but had no torpedos left to attack the convoy which was traveling away.. And i think an attack with the 8.8 gun would't have been wise against the Repulse.

Two of the Swan ships drived right into my Torpedos. And one swan was stopped by a merchant ship which was in the way So it was a "sitting" duck, no swan

This overlaps on those times where I feel like strangling Bernard.

Convoy attack - some nice big targets in the center. I was almost 90* from the main course - perfect! Two torps each at a whale ship and collier. ...nothing for the longest time - all four torps were long overdue. I had given up all hope when...

"Torpedo impact! She's going down! Torpedo impact!" Well, that was fortunate! They must have hit some of the far targets of the convoy. Another minute passed and two more impacts. Four hits! Nice for failed torps.

Cheating a bit and going into external cam, there is one little, burning coastal freighter with four rather large holes in it, sinking slowly (how it wasn't blown to pieces is beyond me). And she was a neutral.

'Wise' is definitely not the word that comes to mind in this situation. Something more along the lines of 'suicide' , seems more appropriate.

Just had torped a lonely destroyer, i thought it would sink but only the stern lifted all up and was unable to depth charge me. When i raised my per it was just laying there shooting at me. (sorry for bad english i'm from Holland)

I have attacked a small Konoy again but this time in a perfect 90 degree angle and at around 5000m distance. I fired two eels at a Whale Ship and two at a Large Freighter. Three eels hit the other one is missing. The three destroyers started to search for enemys in the area but din't found me. As the screw sounds were away i went to periscope deapth and saw the Freighter left behind. I closed up to 1500meters and gave the commando for the 8.8cm gun to sink it. It just took around 5-6 rounds. And i had already 13000BRT at the begin of the patrol.
