I am on my way to Gibraltar for a change and I am wondering if there are convoys and lone merchant ships in grids CG94,97,86,89.

that area is naturally a strategic choke point and thus a hotbed of activity. Everything the allies send into the med or bring out of it HAS TO pass through that area you are describing.
you are very likely to encounter single merchants, merchants traveling in pairs, as well as full blown convoys and task forces for just about any point in the war.

On another note: it is also heavily patrolled by Destroyers both singles and in groups... also there is a great deal of air activity in that region
Good luck. ![]()

Simply park up 250km west of Gib and enjoy the traffic.

Yeah, I would say this is your best bet. Going into Gibraltar itself is very rewarding but quite risky.

I agree with jimbuna, but early in 1940, it is not so hard, I can gladly pass there, after that Italy has become "our friends", so it is possible to visit a port

Lots of lone merchants on the line between Gib and Cape Sao Vicente. Lots of airplanes on GWX 3.

I have spent my last two patrols there in late 1940, and it has been a bit disappointing. Not as much traffic as I had hoped, and most of it escorted. There are occasionally lone merchants in ones and twos, but a lot of them turned out to be neutrals and I have had the bad luck to sink 2 so far by accident. I'm now happily back in the mid atlantic air gap where I belong.
