Default Using the PC all day makes you weak

I found this out after being in new employment for the last two weeks where there is no computers in sight, this job involves heavy work, Small company of 8 guys including myself being going since the 1970's and only supplier in New Zealand so its not going to close down I think I got myself a winner here.

Anyways after the 2nd week into the job my hands are swollen they swell down by morning and my feet are in constant pain when at work from standing on concrete all day I just ain't use to it and I blame my years of computer work sitting on my arse all day where the only muscle work out would be my fingers. I just went all soft and had no idea till I started this job.
I got callouses forming on my hands, blisters, cuts and bruises from using the rivet guns, I feel much stronger and more well being if you know what I mean. But the pain in my feet at times is so unbearable I just clench my teeth and soldier on I don't want to sound like some wimp so I asked during smoko break did you guys have sore feet when you started here? Oh yeah your get that for a couple of months till your feet get use to it just wear double socks it will not stop the pain but ease it a little. The pain is like my feet are on fire. By the afternoon every step is like walking on hot coals

Ive tried the socks, different shoes rubber soles and leather, and even brought in a rubber mat to lay down at my work bench so I can stand on that. Still doesn't work. I will just have to bear it for another couple of months before my feet harden.

The work is great I love it apart from the feet of course but I leave the day feeling like I actually did a good days work. I'm the only one that wears safety gear, ear muffs, eye glasses even though their is a big sign on the wall stating 'all safety gear must be worn' none of the guys wear them. They are all partly deaf from the banging and clanging going on all day they all shout when they talk then I clicked your all bloody deaf! I aint going to go deaf man even if I look like Micky mouse with the safety gear on I'm sticking to it.

I got an hour before I head off, 6am starts I read online to bandage your feet up if standing on concrete all day so Im going to try that.

Know of any remedies of fixing sore feet?

using your computer isnt the problem. (though i assume your joking)

Anyone who is not used to exhaustive physical labor will experience this same thing.

after a long hot day at work, my strategy was to come home, strip down to my skivvies, get a nice warm tub of water to soak my feet in, and next to my chair would be 6 beers in an ice chest.

as you soak your feet in the warm water (or cold if you desire) pop the top on the bottle of beer and rest it between your legs right up against your "junk". sip occasionally.

repeat this process until you consume all six beers or until the water temperature in the foot tub is no longer satisfying.

Sounds ideal after almost every () job.

I don't think it will take more than a couple weeks for you to get used to being on your feet all day. When I joined a hotel last April I found myself on my feet 7~8 hours a day, no chairs in sight. Yeah, it was rough for the first few days, but after about a week, it got a lot better.

From what I've heard soaking your feet in ice water might help. If you can get past the initial shock, I think your body is supposed to start circulating more blood through the area which flushes it out and helps repair thing. Plus you get the numbing effect. I guess you could just jam your feet into a cooler of beer until you finish them all

depends on the job

some jobs its better to drink before

others its better to drink after

others its best to drink during.

occasionally (with extreme rarity we hope) you come across a job that will require you to drink before, during AND after.

At the risk of sissifying myself, I'll share with you my secret weapon for foot pain:

http://www.homedics.com/home/beauty/...-footbath.html

When I first started teaching, my feet were killing me from being on them in dress shoes all day long. That little thing was the best 30 dollars I had ever spent. Half an hour in that and my feet were good as new.

Im betting on two things you have:

Bone spur on the heel.
http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/gene...a/heelspur.htm

Plantar Fasciitis
http://orthopedics.about.com/od/foot.../fasciitis.htm

I recomment a visit to the foot doctor. Two weeks is far to long to still be in pain.

My wife is suffering from bone spur as we speak. It can be debilitation and hurts like hell.

This man knows how to live!

I would not recommend the 2 pair of socks strategy, your feet will feel more comfy at first, but on the long run it's no good, as your feet don't have enough foothold. The most important thing is having good shoes. My friends who work construction, work mostly in training shoes, they made some great advantages in the last decades. As I assume that you have to wear safety shoes/boots, I can only recommend the classic good old Doc Marten boots - they really have the best soles! The guys I know, who are only allowed to wear safety boots provided by their company, they all curse their employers and wish a pair of Docs!

They were originally purchased as a fashion statement back when I was in high school. Now I use them for almost any physical work I have to do; from chopping wood to helping my friend knock down a few walls to shoveling snow. It is a testament to their durability.
