How can I turn off map contacts in RFB?
Hey all
I'm using SHIV 1.5 + RFB2.0 + RSRD Suddenly life is MUCH easier, because I now have map contacts, even at 100% realism! I had no map contacts before installing RFB and RSRD. How can I get back to Real, Difficult life without Map Contacts?!? Tx |

When you first load the game, Map Contacts is one of the choices in the Options/Gameplay screen.

Thanks! I knew that, but I hadn't noticed that the RFB/RSRD mod had re-enabled the map contacts.

Alternatively if you are in a campaign you need to change your settings from the Captains Office. There's a Radio on the left side near the save/load books that controls campaign options.

That did it.... apparently, the main menu settings is a global setting, not automatically copied to the campaign setting, and indeed, changing it in de captains office does the trick.
Thanks ![]() |

I'm pretty sure that having contacts on/off makes no difference in the realism. I don't think you take a hit by having contacts on. This is one of those long debated issues that was gone over a million times. Your crew would have the job of tracking and gathering data on a target, not you. I used to play with contacts off, because I liked the "hands on" experience of doing everything myself. Over time it just became a pain in the ass, and I realised that in actuality I was taking away from the "realistic" experience because the Capt. would not be manning the Sonar or Radar. The only drawback to having the contacts on, is the complete accuracy your crew has. They're a little too accurate to be realistic IMO.
