Default Have you ever experienced a weather change?

In a recent patrol I was surfaced as I finished off a crippled merchantman with the deckgun. It was uncanny; as I watched, a weather front moved in from the west and rain began to fall. By the time the gun crew had finished their work it was fully clouded and pouring rain. I watched as the good weather vanished to the east. It is the first and only time I have actually observed the weather change. Prior to this the weather changed while in the F5 map view and under time compression. Previous to this I had always assumed that weather changes were instantaneous. Amazing!

This game never fails to find new ways to impress me.

No but I love nasty storms, they let me sneak up to the merchant so close that no evasive maneuvers can save them. (650-900 meters)

Yes I have. I was tracking a large freighter one time. The weather was clear, and as I watched the freighter come closer, I noticed a fog bank approaching which soon overtook the freighter. The visibility went from unlimited down to about 350M in a matter of minutes.

I have been thourgh exactly the same situation. The weather was great, wind at 4 m/s, as I was tracking a merchant though the periscope, then front of me, a cloud bank was getting closer and the merchant was sailing right into it, as it sailed into the storm, it instantly disappears.

Using the sonar, I made a rough estimate of where the torp should go to get this ship, and amazingly, the SO had reported that the ship had sunk.

I was not as lucky when it happened to me.
Chasing a merchant for most of the night when it was clear, only to lose track of him when a rainstorm came over us and him just before dawn.

On several occasions I had weather changes, usually for the worse. The other day, it changed from ragin storm to plscid lake in a matter of minutes. A bit unrealistic for waves to die so quickly. Nevertheless, it was a pleasant experience.

I have never seen the weather change. I did not know you could even see it. I assumed it changed whenever you were below decks.

That would be really cool to watch a storm roll in.

Many think that the weather is less good,

and certainly it is not unusual to have a weather situation where it is blowing between 10-15 m / s,in weeks not at all unusual, but also bad weather can be your friend even when it is windy, rain or fog, given it is difficult to detect visually, in a submerged so it will be easier, of course, aim to become a little harder when it is hard (which I like) but simply to say that bad weather is not good, which is obviously good with varied weather of course.

Years ago, while playing "Aces of the Deep" I was surfaced at night and very close to the convoy. It was foggy, so I was able to get very close as I was setting up a devestating close range attack. Suddenly, the fog lifted, revealing a bright, starry night and I was naked to all the convoy. Within a few seconds, shells began screaming my way and I had to crash dive, ruining my plans for the perfect attack. It happened in real life and it is nice to see that it happens in the game.

I remember the first time I seen fog. It was so thick that you could barley see, also it was in early morning, overcast skies. I didn't even know I was in a convoy, then this massive shape emerges at around 200m, so I stopped for a while to get a good shot. As it got where I wanted it, I got rammed from behind me by some other cargo ship. This went on for a short while until I seen my first freighter.

Wow, I have just witnessed another weather change live! I was surfaced and made contact with a convoy. As it was a starry night, clear visibility, I decided a submerged attack would be my most prudent option. After executing an attack, I dove and withdrew to avoid the escorts. Eventually I was able to come back up to periscope depth and eyeball a crippled freighter. As I viewed through the scope, the weather changed from clear to cloudy and then began to rain. I have played this game for several years and only the last two weeks or so have I seen a live weather change. This game never fails to deliver a unique experience every play.

Sailed into fogbanks and the odd 'wall' of rain on numerous occasions but rarely seen the weather change for the better...unless I script it in.

I've had weather change from No Attack Possible to OK during the course of trying to find a previouse hydrophone contact on the surface. It was wierd, but very welcome.

Found this thread by accident when looking for something else...

In SH5 (not SH3) I was flanking a task force (their 14.5 knots versus mine 15 knots, so it was a looong chase) in bad weather with visibility of max 4000 metres. When i was halfway with the chase, had them all on my port at distance of 3600, fog was almost instantly... gone. I didn't even have time to leave the bridge, not to mention issuing a crash dive order - 4 destroyers and Queen Elisabeth BB opened fire on me from all guns. This was a fast death.

Ouch... I know fog can quickly disappear, but an entire area next to instantly? "Realism" ftw.
