Default Hello world

HI all,

I'm new to these forums, I just purchased SH3 on ebay for a couple of quid .(wish the postman would get a move on...)

Ive always been a sucker for dynamic campaigns (ever since F22-TAW) and have been trying to find out a bit more about how AI works in Sh3 during the campaign.

Do AI naval engagements take place throughout the theatre? and is it possible that you can be asked to support friendly ships etc?

Also, I have read a little bit about SH3 command , people were talking about having multiple boats out at sea- is this possible?

thanks in advance.

First of, I guess welcomes are in order, so welcome to SH3...

Now, I would just like to make things clear...
when you say campaign do you mean career or single player missions???

oh and yes... friendly ships will engage enemy ships... but in career it is not so often you would find a surface naval engagement as you are a lone U-Boat commander who would be assigned to patrol different sectors, but you can still find other ships and follow then as their escort.

german U-Boat commanders were given a lot of freedom in how they see fit to go about these patrols, in other words you don't always have to go to the assigned patrol area and you basicaly can decide how you want to go about your patrols.

Where as in single player missions you are mostly directed to the battle and there is more action going on...

So, if you are a player with patience and a player who wants to feel as if though he was in WWII than career is for you...
But, if you don't want to wait around so long and do what a Captain of a ship would normally do like plot couse manage crew and U-Boat specification, than single player mission is for you...

I don't know much about SH3 commander as I don't have it yet...
sorry...

I hope this was what you were looking for, and also I could be wrong in some way, but I'm sure someone will correct me...

Happy Hunting...

WELCOME ABOARD!

All the major supermods (GWX, LSH3, NYGM and WAC) have varying amounts of ship-to-ship action, based for the most part on real battles, so if you read your history you can find them beforehand through hindsight.

No, you will not be asked to support them in these battles. As Alpha Von Burg said, your only real orders are to patrol your assigned grid. In the stock game you recieve a certain amount of renown (fame) for going to that grid, but it is easily offset by just sinking more ships at the place you choose to hunt at. That said, in the GWX supermod you will recieve convoy reports from AI u-boats, so there is sort of contact with friendly ships.

SH3 Commander is a tool which lets you adjust in-game functions with a single click. It also gives you a realistic career with your captain's background, and it adds names and cargo descriptions to the ships you sink, for a much more realistic feel to the experience.

Once you have the game and specific questions we will all be glad to pitch in and help you enjoy the life of a u-boat kaleun any way we can.

Ahoy and welcome, jangles!

In answer to one of your questions, you can play multiple careers either with or without SH3 Commander, altho most people here will probably agree that Commander is a must-have addition to the SH3 experience.

You can't "play" multiple boats at the same time, since when you are in the game you are commanding one specific boat and that's it. However there's nothing stopping you from having several active careers at the same time and playing whichever one appeals to you at the moment.

The advantage of Commander is that it allows you way more control over starting and managing your career and crew.

Be aware that if you install the GWX mod (which I highly recommend) the anti-aircraft naval academy tutorial becomes a bit...exciting.

The aircraft have live ammo.

thanks all, turns out the postie had delivered when I got home from work , so I installed it and hopped on to do some of the naval training exams.

Navigation was nice and easy , Naval artillery was lots of fun although it took a while (some of those ships just didnt seem to want to sink) - didnt get time to do any more..

I havent installed any mods yet as I want to take the time to get used to everything in Vanilla, although the das boot sound mod is tempting me..

I'm really impressed so far....

Welcome, jangles!

Sinking with the deck gun can indeed take some time -- but it does depend on where you are hitting them. Especially if you install GWX, which I have to say as a new player I highly, highly recommend! Get GWX before you do the tutorials though, as it alters the ship damage model significantly and so you might as well learn on the engine you will be playing
