Default Use SH5 to make Updated/Improved SH3?

Several people here have indicated that SH5 is built off of SH3 code and that SH5 is much more open for modding. If this is true, has anyone with the know how looked at SH5 enough to see if it could be used to make an enhanced version of SH3 with all subs, full war timeline, realistic interface, etc? In short, what most sub simmers were hoping for in SH5?

I realize the official patch period needs to have come and gone before any real work could be done but in the mean time it seems like it could at least be evaluated.

sh3 aint the be all and end all, time to move on. that would be massive amounts of work.

sh5 is coming along nice with all these great mods.

And because of the closer connection, SH4 would be the likely candidate for that treatment, not SH3.

And I agree with Capthelm. SH5 is more open and ready for modding, so adding the missing elements should be much easier than back-porting stuff to an older game.

Thanks...the thread title is misleading. What I mean is turn SH5 into a sim similar to SH3 with a full war campaign, all subs modeled, realistic interface, etc. This way you have the improvements SH5 provides and the simulation elements that SH3 has but were left out in SH5.

Of course if that is possible then a Pacific theater rendition would be great but I realize all of this would be a lot of work.

Ah, gotcha. Sorry about misunderstanding.

From all that has happened in just the first week of release, I think we're going to see SH5 surpass everything that's come before.

Providing we can actually start the game
Ducimus has already given up and I know of a couple more thinking along the lines
Yep some great tools shipped with SH5 but no tutorials on use
Esp mission ed
SH3\4 ships show with no textures despite following instructions from a dev
New software needed to construct and place new ships ingame that has a hefty price tag and no free versions

So not sure just how " more moddable " is accurate
Lots of mods already which make the game passable but these sort of mods were released for SH3 and 4 real quick also

I haven't even bought it, as I have no internet connection to hook it to.

Sorry but i prefer sh3. I think that is better. sh5 has a beautiful graphic but, for example, is not a realistic game like sh3.

one thing I do not like is the method of driving the submarine and is very annoying to have to walk on down to the submarine.
possible to use the gun in an emergency I have to make me u-boat 2 km and 2 km for my order to the helmsman to turn left? ... I do not like ..

I still prefer Quake 2 over all the later releases.
But I believe that given time?
SH5 will be Standard to beat.
SH3 just provides the Drive now!

Not often i use this word, less someone prove me wrong later and make me look like a bigger fool then i really am, but ahh....

Impossible. For reasons i sort of talked about here:

DRM + burnout from modding in general = short SH5 modding life.

I suspect a lot of the "old timers" will fall into this category, i know I at least do. I had to ask myself, "Do i really want to do this again?" answer is umm... No. My burnout is so complete, im sitting on version 2.0 of TMO for Sh4, and i don't even care to finalize last minute changes, package it up and upload it. I don't even want to look at it The amont of work i have in version 2.0 (and the 50 some odd page manual i wrote) is irrelevant. I simply don't want to touch it anymore. *sigh*, i'll have to force myself to do it, but, im sure you get the idea on, if not completely understand, the burnout factor.

For me?
I don't want to do the tweak dats and stuff type thing.
I'm working on tools to do the boreing stuff.
Getting back into codeing is the only thing keeping me going at this time.
Converting Units to SH5 should, and will be a one click thing!

It was done for converting SH3 Units to SH4 Units as an Alpha tool.
But was never finished completely.

That code is being completed and added to.
So I still see a great future for SH5.
Provided 2012 don't get here first.

I have to say, i look forward to being a USER of mods instead of a working on mods. Not playing SH5 just yet, lots of other fun games to play, but eventually, im just gonna D/L whatever is the hottest mod, install, and enjoy. Sounds like it might be privateers bundle of joy whenever it emerges in published form.

Although Nisgesis work on the AI is definatly something id want to be using too. Along with that mod that puts missing commands on crew members and darkwraiths UI work.

I think that has alway been the plan.... Already we are seeing mods that add feature that were in SH3.

In time I'm sure that SH5 will be an improved version of SH3.

No, it won't be privateer's anything.
It will be the work of many others.
I've had my fill of so called 'fame'.
I want to do what I originally started doing when I joined here.
Create nice tools that others can use to get dirty with.
I know enuff to do that now.
Maybe not on the scale of S3D.
But any tool is a good tool if needed.

Many of the original Tool creators are gone now.
Most likely burned out.
skwasjer has also stated intents to lessen or stop.

The new modders need new tools.
I think I can do more good by createing a few.
