Default Help with Norway

The war with Norway is about to start up and I am positioned and in wait. I Chose Narvick as the port that I will focus on for my first patrol (In Norway). I was wondering what areas are used for shipping lanes, I figure Narvick and Bergen.

My plan is to wait in that zone I chose and sink whatever is heading in/out of port. Are ships scripted to head ALL the way to the port of destination or do they disapear outside of the port?

What are your opinions of the Battle of Norway?

While there was quite a lot of action in the fjord leading in to Narvik on 10th and 13th of April (1st and 2nd battle of Narvik) little else happened until end of May. I don't know if the game follows this but there is a single mission depicting Warspite going in on April 13th. Apart from that most activity should be around Harstad, in Vågsfjord, as that was the main Allied base with lots of transports, etc. This should be in the whole period of May. Again, not sure what is done in the game.

If you are playing GWX there will be definately some action there in Norway and Narvik as well.

I've never been around Norway in vanilla SH3, but both the first and second battles of Narvik are depicted in GWX. The Warspite's not in GWX, and is replaced by the Nelson. However, Wreford Brown has a mod that puts the Warspite where she should be.

Have fun!

You will find that both the 1st and 2nd Battles of Narvik are scripted into GWX3.0 pretty accurately.

Here we have the 5 British destroyers leaving the area after the first initial engagement on 10th April.

Here we have HMS Warspite approaching with her attendant destroyers and a flight of Swordfish on 13th April.

Here you can see the Royal Navy leaving the area approx. 2 hours later.

Bonus: Look at all that renown lying north and north west of the area.

Pretty accurately....?.....To my knowledge only 3 British destroyers left the area as two were sunk. The third was being towed with its bow blown off. Of course, it is more fun for the Kaleu to have 5 ships to torpedo than 3......

Remember to have your torpedoes checked thoroughly, that is where the Germans realized their Torpedokrise. Use impact, not magnetic, and adjust for a couple of meter shallower running than standard. Then you are being realistic......

The units involved are accurately scripted in at the beginning.....what happens during the course of the game is down to the game engines hypothetical throw of the dice as to how a surface engagement pans out and of course the actions of the human player.

Similarly, the rest of the true life events that are scripted into the game.

The question or test for the player is quite simply, "Can I do better than what happened in RL"?
