OK..here comes the noobiest question of the day...
I am on patrol, Philippines, 121 E/11N, and I just realized that my fuel is 33/100. I'm gussing I need to refuel. How do I determine a base to refuel at? Would I have to go back to Freemantle(don't think I can make that)? Have I over extended my patrol reach and time and now am past a point of return? Help! Royce |

How cool wouldn't that be if you could sneak into an enemy harbour and steal some diesel?
![]() Unfortunately SH IV doesn't support that... ![]() ![]() |

yes, fuel is something you definitely have to keep an eye on. If you run out of fuel there is no option for a tow or rescue. For what it's worth my standard rule is once I reach the 50% fuel mark during a mission then I have to start thinking about; a. where I am (current mission task), b. where I'm going (next mission task), and c. do I have enough fuel to continue and then head back. Of course, any action during all of the above will cut into your estimates but fortunately you do have the "range at current speed" calculation button which helps a lot. ![]() |

TMO fixed the fuel problem, otherwise I find in stock you have to move around at 1/3 or 2/3 to conserve fuel. I complained about that in these forums also
![]() I don't know if there is a stand alone fix, maybe someone else knows...

Tomoose - thanks for that info..Since I'm new, I didn't give fuel a second thought until I received the low fuel icon warning. Now I'll need to refrain from sailing around at "Full" and wasting resources wandering around the Celebes Sea. However when one is out of Freemantle and on patrol around the Philippines there is alot of sea to traverse...just to get to your patrol point. Most fuel is used, just getting "on station". How do you more experienced SH'ers handle this type of mission?? ..but fortunately you do have the "range at current speed" calculation button which helps a lot. ![]() Uhh..where is that? (hides head asking) ![]() |

1/2 speed 1/4 at 33% of fuel you might make it make sure your battery is charge and click off the charge button

Do your traveling at ~ 9 kts. On the surface.
Submerge to attack or survive. Moving submerged is fuel intensive. Avoid it when possible. If you've sustained any form of damage, follow closely the recharghing of your batteries. It is possible that they wont recharge 100%. In such a case stop auto recharging. Recharhing batteries costs diesel. Yes most of your fuel will be spent to reach your mission objective and return to base. If you allocate 10-20% of your fuel for reserve/contingency purposes you'll find that the actual availability of fuel for combat/patrol purposes maybe lower than 20%. Not unrealistic mind you. Fleet boats would routinely travel 30-40 days to and back from their patrol stations where they remained for less than a week. The Pacific is a BIG pond! ![]() As the war progresses and more "forward" bases are established fuel becomes a lesser concern but always remember nobody if going to tug you home if you run dry! .

I forget which row of buttons it's in but look for the icon which shows a stopwatch symbol and a <----> symbol which is "time to end of course" next to it is the "range at current speed" button (and for the life of me I can't remember what the graphic is, LOL). This is in TMO BTW I can't remember if it was available in stock. |
