Good Bye Ubisoft?

Recently, Ubisoft broke the one billion mark in annual sales. That is very good. It shows healthy growth and gives us some perspective on the size of the company and its success.
This solid institution must have some long range planning.

Last week, with the announcement it will use OSP in its future games, Ubisoft revealed the first step to what they want in the world of gaming—Total control of its customers.

This goes in the grand tradition of large corporations who have decided big brother knows best what is good for the consumer.

I don’t know if Ubisoft management had time to congratulate themselves before they felt the first bump of opposition. A lonely voice at Subsim alerted members of the nefarious plan. This created an explosion of protest.

Meanwhile, other less urgently concerned voices also rose in protest. Opposition to OSP grew throughout the internet.

Despite this, Ubisoft remained silent as the protests grew into a firestorm across cyberspace

Like all large corporations, Ubisoft is not a nimble organization, Personalities busy on maneuvering in the jungle of office politics have better things to do than solving urgent problems. Meanwhile, the palace is burning and the galaxy of forums dealing with the many Ubisoft games are buzzing.

Stand back, everyone, stand back. You don’t want the burning edifice to crumble on top of you.

Good bye Ubisoft?

It wont be the first time a juggernaut crashes victim of its own success.

No, no goodbye!

I'd rather challenge them.
If you deliver a perfect product, you have total control of your customers...all the control you want, and all the control you'll ever need.

That's a golden market-rule, but hard to accomplish.

perfect product...does something like this exist?

beside this...i dont like ubi. i rather dont like ea and activision. mostly all of the "big ones" have a major failure: lack of interest in customers needs, but a lot of interest in their money. so, what to do? givin them a game they wanted, but half baked and with no support.

crap. business world has turned into a wildlife jungle, where no more rules are existing.

IMHO Ubisoft shot itself in one foot with "only type VII sub", then shot itself in the other foot with "only to Black May of '43" Now the Suits over there put the gun to to its head with the trigger cocked and said "Must be online to play game"

I say "Pull the trigger, Twice" just to be sure you put yourself out of our misery

I will not and can not except spyware in any form what so ever.

Like Robert Ludlum had said in his books,"So Be It".

Oh yes, it does.
But we would have to look to mother nature, to find one.

A Perfect Product, that's what everyone who produces something, should go for, ain't it?
A product, that satisfies everyone's needs, not only the producer, but also the customer.

Economics is about people in the 1st place....money is only a medium.
It's a science, that studies, how people can reach prosperity, by using means that are scarce, and can be used in alternative ways.

A - scarce > so we must pay for it, not steal it.
B - can be used in alternative ways > so we must be able to use it as we please.

If both A and B are met, we're getting close to a Perfect Product.
And since producers AND customers are all people, we must shake hands, to reach that goal.
Not fight each other, because that automatically cancels-out A and B.

I know, right now, this looks like an utopia.
But progress "comes at a price!"...the glass seems like it's half empty at first.
....says the customer.
Oh no, says the producer...it's half-full.
Mother Nature would say, hey I've given you guys the means to make a perfect glass....

Ok, let's fill it up then, eveyone shouts!

The thing is, I'm getting bored by all the negative posts.
Let's try to turn negative feedback into something positive.

How? I have no freaking idea!
We're only a small subsim-community.
But you gotta start somewhere, ey.

Good point BRAG, I'm sure that the suits at GM, Chysler, AIG and such like were patting themselves on the back (and giving themselves big bonuses) while Rome burned. You're correct to point out they aren't too big to suffer the same fate......The internet helped build their reputation as a credible game producer and the internet can take it away.
Lay the fiddle down Nero!
